Don’the forget he helped solidfy relations with the Buffalo, the Crystal Empire by bringing Cadence into power and saving it’s citizens livilihoods twice,helped Twilight stop Starlight Glimmer, helped encourage Starlight into reestablished lost bonds and giving support when needed, directed Twilight when she was clueless multiple time in the first EQG film, helped free the Rainboom during Rainbow Rocks by bringing Vinel Scratch, and even allowing Twilight become a student in the first place.
 
Seriously he gets a lot flake, but really without him everything would have went sideways multiple key moments.
