This is a lovely commission ordered by myself, and done by the ever-so-fabulous Circus-Cinnamon.
There aren’t nearly enough artworks of King Thorax being adorable with his new subjects, so I decided to fix that. Thorax finally has many friends with whom to share cuddles and love with.
Just like some pokemon
I think that’d be rather neat, since the writers have clearly made their designs bug-based, and didn’t bother for any differentiation with their original designs. I’m just curious if the color pattern differentiations with the drones will mean anything or not, if that will prove to be completely random as well.
It could be that the difference between male and female changelings (like male and female breezies) isn’t apparent at all to ponies. It could be something based on scent, for example, or a sense the bug-ponies possess that ponies don’t. The changelings obviously know who the boys and girls are, and I doubt if they care whether the ponies do. (“You look exactly the same!” “Well, to YOU we do…”)
Yeah, if they where genderless the writers would already say that. We’ll find out in the future
Since I don’t know if the neck gems mean anything when trying to identify gender, I’d probably just draw them all gender neutral if I were an artist. I couldn’t really tell with their old designs either.
Since they might still be able to shapeshift anyways, I’d just ask them how they feel about it.
I just wanna make sure, maybe it’s like pokemon where just a little thing differentiates the gender. Anyway, it’s just something i wanna know
No, he doesn’t because they have already created another bug-related species. Subsequently, the bug-related species in question is also older than breezies. :L
We haven’t figured out the difference between male and female breezies yet, and you want to start on another bugpony species?
That really bugs me. HA, get it?
i hate myself
My interest of animals is kind of tangentially related… Eh, whatever. ^3^
If they are anthro mantises, then that is your furry-ness talking. If they are actual, anatomically correct mantids (or at least close enough), then that is something else entirely, completely unrelated to being a furry.
I find mantises hot… Have I mentioned furries are weird? ;3
Hungry? Grab a Snickers.
Random Changeling named Snickers:“STOP TOUCHING ME! WHY WAS I CURSE WITH THIS NAME?!”
Thorax: Hungry? Open-hive cuddle parties between 10-12 and 6-8, every day!
It could be that her offspring are automatically in whatever state she is at the time of their conception, which obviously is the black form we’ve all known for so long. Likewise I’m sure if Thorax conceived changelings with a female who was also of the new species, they’d be the new species.
All speculation, I don’t pretend to be right obviously, we know so little thus far. I hope we see a lot more Thorax and changelings in S7, both lore-building concepts and chances to be effing cute as shit.
So like, she made them that way pre-birth?
Good question, not sure, but I don’t think it’d be hard to show them how to essentially be affectionate and share love. This seems to be how changelings are ‘supposed’ to be, in their nature. They were just born/raised by an evil bitch before, so they never came to understand it, I guess. I’m sure once Thorax gave them all some hugs and they started to make friends they just naturally converted.
Would they know how to do whatever they did?
Or do you think there’s some way to just force the conversion?
I think it’s safe to assume that there were still babies and young changelings within the hive when they all transformed, they just weren’t anywhere near the intruders or necessarily near the Queen at that time. Thorax mentioned a ‘nursery hive’, remember? Probably not a mrs. just yet, just Chrysalis’s leftovers xD

Or maybe lion pride rules or something.
