Dude, all the Metal Gear Solid games, 1-3 at least are all campy as fuck. They’re hardly attempting to be realistic or gritty. Remember that time the President turned into a cyborg octopus with a katana? Or the time a masochistic undead-cyborg lusted for Snake to punch him? Even up to 4, the writing is very meme worthy. There’s also the case of the possibly repossessed body of the Russian cosmonaut with a jetpack and a flamethrower.
 
The series hasn’t necessarily been ARMA. It’s Kojima making himself an anime. Even if MGSV lost a lot of the camp, it’s got a lot of those sci-fi elements that made the Metal Gear series. And that’s if we ignore poisonous Zanzibar hamsters and soldiers falling to sleep because an owl hoot.

They weren’t realistic per sae, but it’s like comparing new Batman to “Attack of the 50-Foot Woman.”
 
One is at least somewhat believable.
 
Or even comparing the newer batman movies to the campy old ones.

I honestly haven’t really played it, I just remember watching my brother play the old games on the PS2 back when they were new - sneaking around oil rigs and stuff.
 
Now I see this… It’s almost as bad as comparing 90’s and early 2000’s CoD games to modern ones. What the heck is happening to the entire game industry? And then Halo 5 had to go this way, too?… (at least with aesthetic styles)
