Its still very unlikely that they can turn into anything bigger than themselves though. That would make fighting in their real forms irrelevant, and that’s what they insisted doing when an all-out fight broke out.

Yeah, no. After seeing this episode, I highly doubt it’s “purely glamour”. Thorax wouldn’t be able to transform into a rock (tangible and movable, I must note) or Spike if it was just an illusion without changing mass, volume and shape whatsoever. Why would you even need “it’s just a glamour” explanation if you’re already explained it by “ring of fire radius” explanation?

i mean, would not make sence a changeling turn into something of the size of an adult dragon
i believe they can only transform into things that are close to their size

I would imagine that they could only feasibly shift into something that fits within the ring of flames. I also imagine their transformation is a glamour, so while they can change shape and appearance, there’s nothing they can do about their mass, which would put a lower limit on size as well.
This.  
Otherwise they’d all just transform into adult dragons and there wouldn’t even be a need for them to resort to subtle tactics like infiltration. The show would’ve ended at Season2 then.

So, this also proved that their “flames” and magic can be non-green color.

Also, Chrysalis’ transformation is noticeably slower. I wonder if her transformation is ‘true’ transformation and can’t be detected or dispersed, and regular changeling have only ‘temporary’ transformation that’s quite fragile and can be easily broken.

And so are you but here’s how it would work, multiple changlings pile together and transform at once the amount needed would need to be equal to the mass of ex dragon lord Torch.
