Unpopular opinion time

Seriously, the thing that irks me most about the WUB WUB WUB stuff is that every time she’s shown playing music it doesn’t resemble dubstep at all
 
Also, an opinion about fan works: I think a lot of them take the easy way out in regard to “feels” by simply dumping a character in a situation and relying on a pre-existing attachment to the character to provide the emotion rather than giving any in-work reason for it.

Oh I have another unpopular opinion.
 
When it comes to the content of her character (both in a story sense and moral sense) twilight is highly unremarkable.
 
The only thing special about her is her magic which serves to dilute her rather than add to.
 
The other ponies don’t have superpowers and yet remain just as brave and steadfast in the face of danger.
 
This is really the reason Twilicorn rubs me the wrong way and in general having each finale and premier focus on her is indulging on a character that is not noteworthy at all.

Is that really relevant when discussing how good writers are?
 
The point of fanfiction is to take the characters and other things you enjoy in the show and put them into new scenarios, new circumstances, ect. Essentially it is to entertain and explore new ideas and concepts, while retaining things you are familar with.

…I hate Fluttershy…that is all.

World building is really just creating a setting. It’s detail work.
 
I know there’s more to it and it has it’s own challenges but character is far more complex.

Related: I think a lot of fanfic authors go overboard on the “introducing new elements” thing and don’t keep enough of an attachment to the show. I tend to enjoy fanfic far more when there are only one or two new factors and then seeing how those factors influence the characters. When a fic starts off with a cast of OCs in a setting that’s never been seen in the show, and is about some aspect of the cosmology that the author made up, it rarely holds my interest no matter how well written it is.

If they are writing about preset characters… Then their talent is limited compared to the people who made those characters.
 
Especially given the restraints that others have posited in this thread.
 
Canon > fanon.  
That isn’t to say that fanon is all garbage but the trueborn son is always regarded better than the bastard child.

You get what I’m saying though? Whenever the show does something that some people don’t like, Faust’s name is always invoked to say how much the show now sucks with her no longer at the helm.
 
Distressingly, a lot of reasonable people do this too, not just trolls. CR, for example, the person whom got me to finally watch the show, has now become one of those people whom praise Faust in one hand while bashing the current show makers and those whom disagree with him in the other.

I don’t know if the opinion is unpopular, but I would  
like the show to transit from a slice of life setting  
to a series with a goal.
 
Not that I don’t like slice of life and one episode  
stories, but it grows rather old.
 
I’d like to have a goal or thread established at the  
beginning and then worked on that on every episode.

The funny thing is that Rob Renzetti is actually the person who was the showrunner most of the time, he did day to day show things.
 
So when people say the show sucks without Faust, it’s actually Renzetti they want.

My ultimate pet-peeve with canon is not anything in the canon itself. It is the people who automatically declare it to be superior. “Canon > Fanon” has never rubbed me the right way, Sorry.

I think that “True True Friend” is the worst song of the series. The lyrics are just so mind-numbingly simple.
