I’m looking forward to this one. Like some others, I’ll bet this will be AJ’s key episode.
 
Twilight’s will be either be episode 24, or the finale.

Here’s my guess:
 
Granny Smith is slowly dying, Flim and Flam come and give applejack the cure all tonic.
 
When it seems to work, it ends up being a scam Applejack travels to find the flim and flam brothers and tell them about this
 
After the Flim and Flam brothers are forced out of the town, Applejack goes back to Sweet Apple Acres where’s Granny Smith is dying.
 
Granny Smith mumbles her verse from Apples To The Core, and the others sing theirs.
 
She sings hers outloud, then they sing the chorus. Granny Smith’s last words are “We’re Apples To The Core”
 
The credits isn’t the credit music, but it’s the sound of Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Apple Bloom and Big Mac crying.
 
okay that’s too dark for the show nevermind

I just finished writing a fanfic about these two. Days later they’re announced to be in a future episode.

while I’m sort of weary turning the brothers into actual con men It would make sense for them to do something like this. Perhaps they actually believe the tonic works.

Another Applejack Episode?  
Another episode dedicated to the show’s most static character?  
Yeah, the only thing that interests me about all this is that the Flim Flam Bros. are back. I love those guys.

They’re bringing back the Film Flam Brothers? Oh boy, this can only mean trouble.  
Also they better have a good reason for why AppleJack and Granny Smith are willing to trust these guys after the whole “running them out of ponyville”

In fact, let me guess the plot:
 
Granny gets sick, FF come and sell her this “tonic”, and AJ tries to convince Granny she’s being swindled but can’t. So she makes her own “tonic” (a placebo) and convinces her it works; the town gets in on AJ’s cureall , while FF counter her product with a new one. This escalates to a point where AJ realizes she’s been fibbing to everyone (rainbow eye moment), and she works to diffuse the whole situation.
 
The only trick here is that if this is a key episode, the key’s likely got to come from F&F, and that sorta means they get a bit of reform at the end of the day which is somewhat of a downer.

This feels more like AJ’s key episode than the upcoming one with Apple Bloom. (FS’s will be the breezies episode).

What I imagine is the brothers will sell snake oil, Applejack will figure it out, they’ll see they ended up hurting people, apologize and promise to be better, boom Applejack gets her key.
