That’s suffering as a result of incompetence, but what about from the state itself? I guess the holocaust was blind to age, but that’s a big part of what made it so despicable. France’s Reign of Terror was the same way. Did Soviets send children to gulags and have them executed along with adults?…

That’s considered a breach of international law and a human rights’ violation today, but those laws (like any) are only about as serious as they are enforced.

Generally no, but it depends on the dictator.
 
Especially in communist dictatorships, where labor is disincentivized, and resources become spread thin. In such states, those who more desperately need resources, like the very young and very old, feel the shortage more harshly.
 
In fascist dictatorships, the youth are generally targeted by the state. They realize that indoctrinating people as young as possible makes it easier for them to tighten their grip on power. Moreover, training them to be as loyal and aggressive as possible increases the likelihood that they become soldiers or government workers later in life.

That makes me wonder… are children generally any safer in tyrannical regimes? I mean, you can say “these dissidents are enemies of the state!” And keep up the pitiful illusion of being the good guys and publicly executing those “public enemies” and “terrorists” and all, but it seems that you’d cross a line that you couldn’t even pretend you weren’t evil any more if you start doing that to children.

I like how sad glimmer is looking at the bite mark. Here we have reformed glimmer,trying to refocus her life put her past behind her and out of nowhere some strange pony attacks her by biting. Such a feral and savage method of attack and while she easily incapacitates him with her magic,the shout of the pony flows out anyway. The bite stings but the insults,yelled with such hatred and vitriol are more painful than the bite itself. Whats a commie? What could have caused such a young filly to hate her so? She never met her before,Yet she wants to fight to the death? Does the filly think she’s going to hurt her? She would never…right? She loved the fillies at her village…when they didn’t “misbehave” of course but that doesn’t…she never… Glimmer stares at her bite,the noises from the green filly ringing in her ears. She feels sad…she feels regretful…she feel disappointed…at herself again ,for some reason she can’t pin down. The filly keeps on yelling….
