The episode was really good on its own. Seeing Celestia finally give a ‘srsly?’ face to Twilight was icing on the cake. Its freakin’ unnatural for the show and I love it.

I think this is the first time celestia has ever given this look to ANYONE

Celestia and Luna are not amused at how Twilight sees this as a learning opportunity to learn more about dragons when Spike is clearly putting himself in harm’s way because of Dragon Lord Torch summoning the dragons to see who would best replace him as the next Dragon Lord.
 
Maybe once they learn of Spike having forged a new alliance with the dragons, they will change their mind. That especially goes for when they learn of all the info Twilight collected while she was there, not to mention now being pen-pals with Princess/Dragon Lord Ember.
