The real reason I downvoted is because I dislike the artstyle. The faces are ugly, the eyes are even uglier, and I hate the lips.

That’s just it; I don’t have any one interpretation. I just like seeing unusual human versions of them.
Pinkie’s bigger than the other girls, Fluttershy and Twilight are thinner…
They sure do look the same to me…
They have different body types though and don’t all look anorexic
those are fine… if your interpretations make you happy then don’t listen to anyone else.
I’m struggling to think of a show that had animation that had realistic proportions in every way, and I can’t think of many.

While I agree it would be hard to animate (judging by the artists’ description it doesn’t seem like she had that intention anyway) it’s not like it would be impossible. A movie gets you a bigger budget.
Yep; these designs would be very difficult to animate well, especially on a TV budget. Not that anyone’s going to pay attention to that.
Nope. Let’s see Hispanic Twilight, or African Applejack, or Jewish Zecora!
(Yeah, I don’t see any reason for humizations to have any connection to their vocal performances on the show. Call me weird if you want.)
The thing is what is appealing in a single drawn picture is often not possible in either animation or toy making. They have “oversized” heads (if you’ve seen LPS, you’d know why I put it in air quotes) because it both gives the animator more room to move the eyes and mouth around for emotion and makes toys easier to manufacture.
But there’s also a lot of white Twilight too so does that mean it’s not creative either..?
Actually, there’s slight differences in body design and face shape among the characters; also, these designs are more realistically proportioned and don’t have the oversized heads of the real EqG designs. I can see why people would prefer one design or the other, but I don’t really have a preference.
