Exactly, that’s what I was saying (or trying to say at least ^^). The two styles are very different, but both equally good. :D
=Was just about to start re-watching Tales for the fun of it anyway= ^^
They’re both perfectly legitimate and respectable art design directions. I actually really like the contrast between the cartoony goofiness of the animated foreground with the realistic(ish) painted backgrounds in MLP Tales and find it one of the most charming things about the series; it harkens back to the classic Warner Bros./Merrie Melodies era. I still have more appreciation for the highly stylized environmental art direction of FIM, but they’re both nice in their own way.
I completely agree, the background art in MLP Tales was much more realistic and painterly (if that’s the right word) whereas FiM is far more…well, cartoony. Which is not a bad thing, just saying. :)
