Like the US, the Russian Federation actually has a constitutional two-term limit for its president that Putin unsuccessfully attempted to revoke before leaving his seat to Medvedev in 2008 and ruling through him as Prime Minister until he was re-eligible in 2012, like #04D8 said.
Personally, I think he’s showing his passion for Mother Russia.
