Then old Bugs Bunny cartoons must make their heads explode
That’s because the internet has taught them that the only thing that matters is their own selves and their own opinions.
It’s a new phenomena. It’s pretty much the younger people who get offended by it, because they do not understand the history of drag and treat it like it has always been some type of “black face” against transgender identities. The whole thing has gotten to the point that even pride parades are discouraged from using drag now.
Context doesn’t seem to matter anymore in social justice.
That’s honestly what baffles me most about the whole “controversy”. The episode doesn’t really reflect on trans stuff because it’s clear that Big Macintosh is only cross-dressing in the first place for the sake of the disguise, not because he’s trying to express himself.
In general, it just strikes me as strange when people conflate ‘‘any’’ instance of cross-dressing with transgender topics, even in cases where the person doing the cross-dressing identifies as their physical gender and only does it for practical reasons (i.e. a disguise).
Yes, it a vocal minority with heavy emphasis on the vocal, like Star Wars OT purists. Steven Universe is a great show and it’s a shame its attracted a rather hypocritical nutty fanbase.
As another Tumblrite I totally understand and agree. Even before it aired I saw it as just a big brother wanting to make his little sister happy when she’s upset.
@TheDog
Unfortunately it’s only one it’s applied to. Like how they’ll insist the gems are race and/or gender-coded (for muh representation and anti-white agenda, or how THE SHOW IS FOR WOMEN AND NONBINARIES ONLY AND WE’LL TAKE MLP TOO I guess) when the creator flat-out says in a Reddit AMA it’s an intentioal gray area and that they’re alien shapeshifting space rocks.
Thankfully it’s another case of a vocal monority.
…Right?
That’s… Actually worse. Because they’re forcing their ideals on a character not their own and refusing to believe anyone else, even the actual creators.
Big Mac was crossdressing, but still clearly identifies as male. This wasn’t a trans-bashing thing, I’m not going to pretend it was.
The way I understand it is this:
Big Mac only falls under the first. He’s not transgender because he still identifies as male, and he’s not a transvestite because he’s only dressing as a mare as part of a disguise, not because he enjoys doing so.
Be a man!
So being trans mean being a transvestite or transexual? And what is a difference between them? One is being mentally a female while other is just having a fahion preferences of a female?
From what I’m getting from a quick Google search, yes, crossdressing is a fetish.
Being trans is related to having a condition called gender dysphoria, a disorder where someone feels like they’re the opposite gender then what they were born as.
Guess it depends on the person.
@DrNazus
Tumblr didn’t get all that offended when Steven did it, but many made a headcanon that Steven is trans and will call anyone transphobic if they disagree with it. Even when the creators of SU have said that Steven is not trans, they still think Steven is somehow trans representation before and after that episode.
In reality, their headcanons are even more offensive because they equate transness to just crossdressing.
