AJ is confident in her home town.
 
When she made the first attempt at moving to manehatten, she had childish wonderment, but when the lifestyle clashed with her desires, she returned home. The second time, she was there simply to sight see and see a play with her best friends.
 
However, THIS time, she was sent there with the purpose of being a “hero” and fixing a problem. This is an alien environment to her, one she already had experience in not feeling “at home” in, and now she was expected to do some “hero-ing”.
 
That’s a lot of pressure for ANYONE.

Yes, I’m sure her childhood experience in a mannered high society brownstone on the posh side of town prepared her smashingly for a busy streetcorner full of angry rudesters in the Haypacking District, as did being part of a tourist group staying in a fancy hotel for a few days sponsored by a famous fashion designer.

There is a difference in going there to be part of the elite (The Oranges), going with a more than 2 pony group of friends, and then going way out of your comfort zone to complete a task. They are different situations.

I’m waiting for the episode where she visits the Oranges…

She was especially nervous in this episode for some reason.
 
It seems to be a thing with Rarity/Applejack. In their IDW comic together Applejack was stressed out and finicky and Rarity was totally calm and going with the flow.

This was a pretty brief scene and the episode didn’t linger on it, she was over it in a Manehattan minute, so I don’t really see it as breaking any continuity per se. There’s nothing to say that she didn’t feel similarly in her previous visits, just that it didn’t warrant showing. Kind of like the nervousness you might feel coming back to school in a new grade – you’ve been through this before, it shouldn’t be a big deal, but you still have that sense of anxiety. Then you actually start the first day and all of it subsides.

But that doesn’t make sense, AJ is by nature a very confident pony. Plus she stated herself that she was concerned that she wasn’t used the pace of life in the city.

I like how everyone is missing the point that AJ wasn’t worried about the place so much as that she was preoccupied about the fact that she was SENT THERE to fix some sort of “friendship problem”.
 
It’s different when you’re a kid going to the “exciting new city” to see new folks, but also different when you go to the big city to see a fashion show put on by a very close friend.

When I was younger I used to travel downhill on my bicycle at speeds that I would never attempt today. The risks outweigh the benefits but that didn’t occur to me then. That cowardice wisdom to recognize danger serves me well now.

Eh, I suppose the rebuttal to that would be that she wasn’t one of the primary focuses of that particular episode, so it probably wasn’t the most ideal occasion to present it.
 
Admittedly though, I still need to watch the new episode, as of right now it’s hard for me to ascertain exactly how nervous she was or what the context was, I will get around to watching it later.

So Applejack goes to Manehattan as a filly and discovers that’s not the lifestyle she wants, so she should be comfortable with it when she visits again as a result? Is that what you’re trying to say, OP?

Contrasting her behavior in “Made in Mahehattan” with “Rarity Takes Manehattan” is definitely more logical; still, given that (a) we barely spent any time with her in RTM, (b) she was with a group of friends in RTM as opposed to just one friend in MiM, and (c) her feelings about Manehattan in MiM seem plausible to me (a small-town resident who’s also ill at ease in big cities), the inconsistency didn’t really bother me.
 
(And let me add that I can understand someone being bothered by that inconsistency, but arguing that everyone else should likewise be bothered by it strikes me as very presumptuous. Not that you’re making that argument, but OP seems to be.)

I read suggestions on TV Tropes that she feeled more at ease because she was with all her friends

She didn’t seem to have a problem in “Rarity takes Manehatten”. And I don’t believe this visit traumatized her so much that she got anxiety.
 
Except that lack in continuity it was a nice episode.
