Also relating to the image:

As much as BD could bag Zecora, her constant rhyming would make him immediately think Bullhorn…I don’t think he’d want to bone a female horse version of Bullhorn.

They DID do Bill Cosby. Now was this before or after the rape allegations, IDK, but they did parody Cosby. They threw a lot of famous celebrities from 70s including Richard Pryor into a blaxploitation film.

Did you actually see the episode? I remember a good chunk of that episode and Mr. Rogers was hardcore badass equal to Black Dynamite. A misguided badass you know for killing people in defense for the children, but a badass nonetheless.

Ultimately, remember this is still a blaxploitation parody where the white man is misguided at best and villainous at worst since the whole point of the 70s blaxploitation films was to uplift blacks from being idiots/villians/canon fodder, etc. They aren’t critical of him (who the hell is?) but I’m sure he was part of their childhood and decided to go off the wall with his character.

Long story short: They thought it was funny.

Ah, that explains a lot about the humour and choices of topic. Hadn’t realised it was based on a live action movie. Still not my bag, though.

Also, my personal issue with Mr. Rogers was, again, why him? Nobody anywhere ever had a bad thing to say about the guy, and he wasn’t a total square either, what with him outright telling George Romero he enjoyed Dawn of the Dead. I mean, if they’d gone with, say, Bill Cosby on the Cosby Show, we’d have been, “Whoaaaaa, they saw the future!”

It’s an animated blaxspoitation parody based on a live action movie out by the same name. They even got the same cast to reprise their roles in the animated series which was created by the same guys who did the Boondocks (sans Aaron McGruder), so expect black culture to be there.

Since it’s a parody of blaxspoitation everything there isn’t supposed to be taken seriously, as it can get very wacky with Black Dynamite as the epitome of the black alpha male some combination of Black Belt Jones and Shaft. There is some poignant commentary about what happened back then, but its more about the comedy. Since they also referenced, MJ, Cosby, Jaws, the Roots (movie), Elvis, OJ Simpson, the Warriors, A-Team, etc.

And as far as the Mr. Rodgers episode IIRC, he really wasn’t an asshole, but more of the tragic antagonist; he only wanted to protect the children watching his show, not to mention the crew and execs behind the scenes were worse tools than him which sent him over the edge.

To be honest, I suspected the same. But it’s not the sort of humour I’m fond of myself.

And that’s okay, of course. Different people find different things funny.

Though I’m pretty sure some people found the Mr Rogers episode objectionable considering that unlike most other people they make fun of like Nixon or Elvis, Mr Rogers didn’t do anything to deserve that kind of treatment.

I always thought that was part of the humor like a running gag. I haven’t watched it in a pretty long time but I liked it it was okay.

Yeah, I think it’s one of those, “you either like it or you hate it” kind of shows. I tried watching another episode of it just a bit earlier, and I lost interest when I saw the main character’s an angry black man. Who’s black. And insists blackness is superior because black black black.

They put a lot of stock in the fact the guy’s black is what I’m saying.

I like most of the episodes I find it pretty funny. I liked the mister rogers episode I don’t know the full reason why they made that episode but my guess is it has to do with all the military tattoos on his arms.

Is Black Dynamite any good? I only happened to see the episode where they had Mister Rogers turn out to be some sort of asshole, and I kind of lost myself in a red haze.

I mean, it felt like the only draw is, “He’s an angry black man, and references his blackness(?) as much as possible.”

But mostly the Mister Rogers thing.
