Oh yeah, Discord mentions Tirek’s old man. Probably the first time anything from the comic was referenced in the show.

Not really. The show does say that Discord ruled Equestria, and the Princesses obviously ruled Equestria afterwards, so it was simply assumed this was the case. It’s never at any point mentioned how Discord took control, obviously he did it by deposing Celestia and Luna.
In fairness, ‘Diary of Two Sisters’ also had them as guardians of a federation of allied nations (Earth, Pegasus and Unicorn), so their current situation certainly seems an upgrade.

No, if you read the comic, they are debatting what they should with Tyrek because they think the prirncess will not be happy with him capturing ponies and trying to steal their magic. (I wonder why ?)

I always figured the fact that Cheerilee names him as a draconequus implies that there are (or were) others of his kind out there.
To me, they’d all have slightly different “parts” making them up, but at least have some dragon and some horse in them.
He’s also the spirit of Disharmony, so I could see him joining an organization for the express purpose of undermining it. He did have that Plundervine plan, which would have takes a while.
Exactly. Plus, why the hell would Discord have have the patience to be part of an organization? Could there be more Draqonequui still be alive back then?
This is probably before the ponies invaded what’s now Equestria.
