I know, we are probably arguing over “nothing” so sorry for that. Also, you probably are much ahead before me since I’m not native speaker, but:
 
from what I’ve found “love you” can be also used in relationship between mother and son, or girl-girl/boy-boy friends (just friends). And there is just simple warm feeling between them, not some love or even more.
 
I would understand if it was in Czech, because we would never used “miluji tě, drahá” (I love you, honey) for this (because it would imply they are lesbians), but our “mám tě ráda, synu” (literally: I like you, my son) isn’t probably suitable for English in these situations, I think (then again, I can be wrong).

By the way, Google offers a lot of pretty images for “rub noses” and just because BigMac and Cheerilee in G4 did that, it doesn’t always mean that “love” = “sexual atrraction” :)

Yes, but besides having the most chemistry of any G3 pony pair, they explicitly confess their love for each other in the live-action stage show The World’s Biggest Tea Party, and then rub noses. Presumably because the costumes don’t have working tongues.
