My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

Man, even the hired stooges are snobs in this society. XD

Much ore of this and Spike will end up like that one RL Manhattan beggar from the 20’s who only took money from celebrities, and once told some fellow, “Beat it, ya bum. Ya gotta be someone before I’ll take your scratch.”

I suppose I was a li’l aggressive, so I apologize for that. (Also, I didn’t see how old the comment was.) Regardless I just felt you were taking this image to personally. Like I said criticizing Andy’s work is one thing, but accusing him of something personally is another.

I guess I just get tired of seeing fans accuse not just Andy, but even the show staff & Meghan McCarthy of hating Spike, and such too. (As some get arguably “flanderized” on occasion in the show too.) I think some fans are getting to overly-protective of their favorite characters is all.

I admire the passion some fans have, though some go overboard. I’m just trying to encourage some to be more careful with what they assume about other people. (Especially, those who work on the show and/or comic.)

He was just told to draw these two characters, he made up the silly dialogue though.
The commissioner stated this in the comments below.

@Kappe
Regardless, this is NOT canon material, and just something silly on the side. It’s no different then fanart really, and should be held to the same standard.

To each their own. We all have our own opinions. I just think you’re painting him, as “worse” then he actually is. (He’s not perfect by any means, he’s human. So he can’t please everyone.)
Also, he’s not in charge of writing the stories, so if there’s something in the comics you don’t like, or some dialogue it’s more-so the writer’s doing, not the artist’s. (I’m not demonizing Katie or the other writers’, mind you.)
Frankly, I liked how Chrysalis was handled in the first story arc, she was at times quite threatening/badass, and other times kinda cute/amusing. But that’s just my personal opinion.

As I said to each their own, I just don’t think Andy is a bad person, and he’s been quite nice to fans. Criticizing his work is one thing, but criticizing him personally is another.

Oh.

I’d be fine with him “poking fun” with characters outside of the comics

Then why bitch about it on a picture of a non-canon convention sketch? Kinda contradicting yourself there. If you think his canon stuff has problems this is not the place for it.

Andy Price is not a fan artist. He is an artist and a writer for a source of canon material.

I’d be fine with him “poking fun” with characters outside of the comics, if he kept it to outside of the comics. He doesn’t. He’s systematically destroyed everything that made Chrysalis and the changelings interesting and popular characters, because he thought it was fun and wasn’t something fans expected.

You like him, that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with that. Doesn’t make you a bad person. But I don’t.

You guys both realize that this is a commissioned sketch, right?
Andy Price was told by his client to make these characters say this in his drawings.

He pokes fun at all the characters, it’s not just Spike, and Shiny. By that logic, he’d hate everyone. I don’t think he harbors any resentment to any fictional character or at least on the level some fans do.

Frankly, on DA I draw pics poking fun at many characters I like, or having bad comical things happen to them, have them say/do stupid things, and such. As a result I get accused of hating said characters too, (even ones I’m quite fond of, and drew “nice” things of, as well) so I know how it is.
That’s why I think it’s unfair to generalize & demonize Andy like that. He’s just being silly/lulzy with his pics, they don’t mean anything deeper. It’s satire.

The closest he came to admitting he disliked a character was when somebody asked him which pony he would never draw. He said it was Babs Seed. (Considering she was kinda a “Karmiac Houdini,” and actually got physically-abusive to the CMC unlike Tiara & Spoon, I can kinda see why he feels that way, despite being a fan of her myself.)
And I must add I don’t think he’s ever made a pic even poking fun at her, and such like he does the ones he does like.
He’s said he likes Applejack, Chrysalis, and Luna, yet even they get made fun of in his pics too. If he disliked them, he wouldn’t draw them at all.

Maybe I understand ‘cause as I said I’ve been in his boat before, and I satire things too. So don’t make assuptions about people, or their personal opinions just because of what they draw.
I’ve seen fanartists do much worse to the characters then Andy does, and not get flack for it.

Or, you know, he could have drawn something nice for both of them, instead of taking a dump on arguably the most popular fan episode idea involving either of them. He seems to like doing that kind of thing even in the comics. Good to know he’s been doing it to Spike prior to this.

He was requested to “draw something with Spike and Shining Armor” and this was the first thing that came to his mind. I’m glad the person ended up happy, but I don’t think highly of him. Sorry.

Oy vey, learn to take a joke.

Y’know, a few people used to accuse him of hating Spike for these request satirical pics. Then he makes a pic like this where Spike gets the last word, and isn’t the butt of the joke for once, and now people in the opposite direction are mad.

I swear Price can’t win.

@Jake The Army Guy
Bought it as a sketch at BronyCon, my guess? Did you ask Price for this statement specifically, or did you just say “Something with Shining and Spike?”
That One Guy

@Magic Man
Agree. Shining gets taken out of the action all the time.
Spike gets some kind of supportive role, and he’s there for a far larger majority of the time. And, y’know, he saved the day like, twice. Like Krillen, but with a bit more success.
Magic Man

Is this Shiny gettin’ getting his flanks not burned, roasted by who is effectively the yamcha of the series?
yeah…
full

Honestly, I’d say Spike is the Krillin of the series, while Shining is the Yamcha.
