Honestly there’s nothing from stopping the show from using deer. Show canon always trumps comic canon. The story about a dragon district in an Equestrian city that flew in the face of “We don’t know much about dragons” canon of the show is a good example.
Still, it would have been better for the story overall if it was situated in some far off place where Celly wouldnt have much legal pull at all. Having them in the Everfree a short walk from Ponyville, and as the “caretakers” without any explanation or lore at all kinda hurts the concept of the comic.
And that’s not getting into how they were destroying multiple towns with no concern for anyone else.
The Everfree is potentially bigger than we think. Rather, it takes up a lot of damn space in Midwest Equestria.
Plus how they bungled it up.
It’d be better if the Deer Kingdom was in some far away forest where Equestria doesnt have much pull legal wise, not right next door inside the Everfree of all places.
