More importantly, the episode made it seem like people were generally happy with his decision-making as long as he kept using the “but PRINCESS TWALOT”. The narrative doesn’t really do anything to provide any actual negative consequence of his actions beyond the breaking things.
The breaking things that Cadance proved COULD HAVE BEEN FIXED IN UNDER FIVE SECONDS if anyone had been BOTHERED.
Cadance had time to spare to bother Spike, but not time to spare to just patch over that broken water main. Or snap some trees off. In fact, the ONLY reason those problems became problems is because the writer conveniently forgot that PONIES CAN MAGIC.
Who’s to say they didn’t have a bunch of other arrangements to handle? And Luna was probably asleep too.
