Then the inevitable misunderstanding would have happened at some point and he’d be in jail.

I think I may havw been suggesting that, but it’s long enough ago that I don’t remember.

I was going to point out that maybe he had even surprised the information of the secret ingredient but then I had another thought.
What if he also decided to sell small portions of the stuff at greatly increased prices? Even make sure to put the “magical white powder” into baggies so there was no risk of others seeing the original container?

Well, he might not even citizen/subject of that griffon Kingdom. He had that accent, so he might be from another continent altogether. (Or he’s like Rarity: from rags to riches, and accent is fake)
Heh, sorry. I was dissimulating for giggles. That’s not the moral at all.
But you’re right about it being useless advice - I think it may be there as a hint at Twilght’s book advice being a little unreliable too, and that maybe we should take even the notion that griffons were once all “as greedy as dragons” with a pinch of salt.
They have quite a different town badge too. I’m guessing there’s been a lot of emigration to Equestria over the years, and maybe there’s quite a few Griffontowns in the bigger cities as well as independent settlements. Celestia’s been shown to be in the habit of just handing out land to weary travellers with a need in the past…
“Wasn’t the moral of this one to befriend a librarian and how that’ll help you find out anything, or something?”
No, that was the advice Twi gave them but it didn’t do shit for them as there was no librarian in the town.
Seems neither that book nor that map have been updated since Griffonstone’s hayday, what with the castle still there and all recent history missing. Given that the Griffon Kingdom¹ uses the Equestrian Bit as currency these days, you’d think there’d be better knowledge of what’s going on² in the outside world.
¹ With a name like that you kinda expect more towns tbh. But if the Crystal Empire can get away with being one small city, I guess a kingdom could too.
² Not necessarily true if the coins are just being used for their metal value alone. It’s not unusual for small numbers of Islamic coins to be found in early mediaeval “dark ages” Northern European buried coin caches, for example. Trade happens.
Not to mention Gustave le Grand. He wasn’t a greedy jerk either. A bit haughty, maybe, and perhaps a glutton… But given that he’s implied to be among Equestria’s top bakeds, one can understand it going to his head, and a patissier with a sweet tooth (or sweet break, as the case may be) is the only kind suited for the job. And if he did live in Griffinstone, I’d think he would have said something about the baking powder.
Jeez, you’re telling me that this map isn’t just a GPS map but a full blown satellite with full real-time video and OTA updates? Damn.
[some time after Pinkie and Dash left, Twi is looking over the tiny Griffonstone with a magnifying glass]
“Why is everything so rundown? Wait, is that Gilda pulling a pastry cart?”
I meant “At least two” at the start.
All two of them where see in Griffonstone, it could of simply just been reusing the models b ut it was the same two.
I doubt a single city like Griffonstone even fully rebounded could go on par with a civilzation of Magic users with a stable economy, goverment and culture who has multiple thriving modern cities. But I don’t expect Griffonstone to be the true extent of the griffon cilvalzation. Merly a independednt city state of exiles and reffuges from some greater griffon empire. I had hoped they would be more closely linked to Equestria which would easily and satisfactory explain many things like that griffon team in the equestrian games but from Twiligths lack of understanding that seems unlikely.
Still I suppose we can always headcanon some grander non-Detroit like proper griffon state across the sea.
