In the G1 My Little Pony Movie, not only did the Smooze cover the land with purple gunk, but any creature unfortunate enough to get “smoozed” by it became grumpy and depressed.
Then we saw in the Season 5 animatic about the Smooze episode that Pinkie Pie thinks nothing about hugging the monster and getting smoozed herself.

Yes, but the picture clearly states “chronically depressed”, and that is what I disagreed with.
I know depression comes in many levels. Pinkie probably has it at a level lower than chronic.
Also the fact that after an hour with a new party pony in town, she is willing to give up her entire way of life. Damn you, cheese sandwich.
I find it very unbelievable that someone with chronic depression can do what they love every moment of every day, like Pinkie does. I have chronic depression and I can barely get out of bed, let alone do things I love. There is a difference between depression and chronic depression, and that difference is how it affects your day to day life.
Depression can be easy to mask over from others. Some can do it really well than others.
She knows smiles, and she knows those smiles aren’t right… because she has personal experience!
So that’s who I bumped into today.

Then again, maybe the old Smooze was a fun loving guy too until some witches threw junk at it to wake it up, and cast magic ritual spells the witches most likely had very little understand about.
