With that said, I would like to see something in either the comics or the chapter books to be referenced in the show one day. A guy like me can only hope at this point.
After Daring Don’t aired, he said something to the effect of “well, I guess it could be an award or something.” It’s still something being made to fit instead of something that was written to fit.
But even if every moment of one didn’t necessarily happen in the other it doesn’t mean they’re bad, like “eww, yuck, this can’t be canon.” Like I said, it doesn’t have to have been written to fit to be very good and enjoyable. It’s well-written and it’s the only place where you’re getting that “episode” about the princesses or Cheerilee, etc. The 100th episode of the show was fun but it only spotlights the fact that letting someone other than one of the Mane Six or CMC get to be that important is a once-in-a-lifetime and-now-for-something-completely-different moment. So yeah, big fan of the comics here.
Yes, that is a very good, not entirely implausible bit of speculation that could be used to patch the inconsistency.
@Phantom Rider
a fictional character in the comic and not in the show
That assertion is so fragile I can break it with a Foreword of four words: “Based on a true story”. I’m pretty sure Nikola Tesla was still a real person irrespective of how many atomic robots he may have created in comic books.
I’m not “upset” about anything. Just stating a fact. She’s a fictional character in the comic and not in the show, which means the show and the comic aren’t the same.
But they don’t need to be the same to be enjoyable.
There are several things that look like awards and also a self portrait, that doesn’t have mean she wrote the Daring Do books.
Seriously?
Y’all upset about that?
tiny tiny detail thrown in as a shoutout to a thing.
Well, the biggest difference is Daring Do. Twilight Velvet has an award for the series on her wall, and there’s one incident where Daring is brought out of the world of fiction. It was pretty clearly written by writers who didn’t think of her as a real person. Then Daring Don’t comes out and the situation is… not the same.
Yes, because they’ve already agreed on what’s cannon and what stories the comics will tell and what stories the show will tell so that they don’t have to go against eachother.
@Phantom Rider
The show doesn’t even adhere to every line in the show itself.
And yes, they’re awesome. I just got Friends Forever V3 :D
That being said though, you think the show writers are going to even so much as hesitate to write a story they want to write, just because it goes against what the comics established?
Except that you are wrong:
The comic writers and show writers get together and agree on storylines so that they still fit together, but they can’t go into the depth of every single line. so what if one line in the comics goes against one action in the show. Bear in mind that Twilight used magic against other ponies in the comics as well. Add to that the fact that Starlight was actively shooting at Twi first.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the comics don’t count. I don’t mean that as an insult either. Whether or not the comics are canon is irrelevant, because the showrunners are going to do whatever the hell they want with the show, and to hell with whether or not it contradicts something established in the comics.
Case in point, Season 5 premiere. Twi went right ahead and tried to pwn Starlight head-on with a blast of magic, and to hell with IDW’s “abuse of power” bullshit.
It isnt like the Archie sonic series where they are out of character filled with the OCs of the comic writers.
Oh yea, the forum!
I always forget we have one of those.
Not sure if joking but this site does have an IDW comics discussion forum with several hundred pages to browse.
Where are these mytical fruitful discussions about the comics?
I always end up late to any party because I’m buying them as the volumes of four issues together, rather than each individual issue, so by the time I’ve read them, the first one is 4-5 months old.
Yeah, seems like everytime a comic comes out somebody has to throw a whiny fit talking about how their ‘non-canon’. I just tend to ignore it and have actually fruitful discussions about them.
Objectively though there have been several instances when a writer like cook will insinuate that the comics are either non-canon, canon as long as they don’t interfere with the show, or alternate tales about her previous adventures. At this point there really isn’t any way to resolve this issue as nobody seems to understand what the comics are, it doesn’t help that several writers seem to be unaware of each others work.
I think it’d be easier to list things that people aren’t still fighting over.
Gah, pointless drama about a thing that certain people refuse to accept.
