We know what will happen… Besides the make-out. (stabbed)
Actually, “Ditzy Doo” doesn’t really exist, but was a concept Lauren had until she heard of Derpy and went with that.
Aside from that, I’m interested as to what they’ll do with Vinyl and Octavia for this episode and any other background pony who will show up in it.
I suppose that’s fair, but considering that most fan nods have been one-off deals, I take any notion of them ‘ruining the show’ not particularly seriously.
Her name was first mentioned in one of Fyre-Flye’s journals after Winter Wrap-Up aired. I wasn’t a brony until June ‘11, so I’m not completely certain. :)
I’m not sure. I’ve only read comics up to a certain point, and I don’t follow any other official source of entertainment.
Ditzy Doo is either no longer used or has been changed to somepony else, right?
The going thought is that it harms the show. The target demographic doesn’t get anything more from it, the older demographic may feel as if fanon is fine for the fandom but not for the show, and the staff may be discouraged if it’s not at liked as well as other episodes.
You have one party who doesn’t care and two who might be disgruntled.
Change has happened in the show, and it’s been handled well, but why leave the change to amateurs? Why let change occur outside of the premise of making the show? Why take away time for a good joke to plant yet another fan nod?
Again, I think that’s the going thought. I don’t think the writers or show runners would take an idea of they didn’t think they could execute it. The exceptions to that are Hasbro-influenced decisions with EqG and the coronation, but after a season and another movie, the older fans seem to have come around to both.
I do worry if this is going to be a bit cringy: seeing your own creation in action may not look as good on television as what you did for that fanart series you commissioned. But overall, I was worried about how Princess Twilight Sparkle would fly, so to speak. Twilight Sparkle ain’t the royal type. Fortunately, it seems as if her title isn’t merely as a figurehead nor does it spark a change that removes her from her friends, which is what I feared. The writers pulled that off spectacularly in my opinion.
If they did that for the most crucial event in the series, then I’m pretty confident they can pull off a one-off for characters who may not speak again on a meaningful way on the show.
I’m wondering what they’ll call Derpy though. There’s no way they avoid her altogether. Maybe they go back to “Derpy,” but just inform whoever voices her that she’s a mare and not a colt.
Heh, probably. I didn’t mean EVERYONE everyone.
But still, even if there are more nods to fandom now than there were before, who exactly does it hurt anyway?
That sounds like an exaggeration.
Panda Rain, Panda Rain o/`
Or to put in another way: The MLP team do something awesome for their fans, pissing them off immensely.
Oh wait, they were mostly inconsequential and just fun little nods that only a fractional portion of viewers would even get, and the show has puttered along nicely regardless?
Well gee, it’s almost as if they know how to regulate their own show and some people just can’t appreciate someone occasionally doing something nice for their fans without kicking up an unwarranted fuss.
really?
i don’t know about this episode now.
I’ve loved what Will Anderson has done in the past. I’m curious to see how this will play out!
You realize Shitcore is not appropriate for children, correct? XD
Yeah. Looking back, I realize that I really messed up. I coulda handled that much better. Sorry.
Wait a tic, you’re the guy who posted that wall of text on the thread, with a name and everything.
Talk about buttblasted
Why should anyone regret creativity? Their ideas may not be considered good by their own standards, but it had been a starting point for many people to express their creativity. There are people like WhiteHawkePaunch that hate the idea of Vinyl and Octavia being together since the creation of Epic Wub Time, but it allowed me to borrow that idea and make something new. Similar to what this show might attempt to do with the fandom’s collective canon. I’ve made some stuff that I cringe horribly at COUGHCATOFFICECOUGH, but if it weren’t for that starting point, I wouldn’t be able to find my voice.
Am I rambling? Maybe, but still…
“fun with our ideas”
A number of people insanely regret the headcanons we had
Freaking this. I posted this on 4chan, I might as well add it here for any future unjustified judgments.
“I’m quite sick of everyone hating the episode before it is released. Can’t we all just wait until it comes out before we cast judgement? I know the idea of cello and dubstep sounds bad, but Tina Guo’s music is beautiful and so deliciously modern that I can’t help but feel that she will do the cello horse some justice. The show is trying something new and they want to have fun with. Say what you will about the pandering, the creators have seen what we’ve been doing for the past couple of years and they want to make their own take on the lore that the collective fandom established. FUN! That’s the key word here. They are using the money and resources that we don’t have to make something nice for all of us as a kind gesture to thank us for our support and we are LITERALLY looking a gift horse in the mouth! I know that people have concerns. I understand that. /MLP/ has their own headcanons, whether they will deny it or not, but we need to keep an open mind. I may sound like a grade-A shill right now, but I’m simply giving the benefit of the doubt. There’s no reason to fly off the handle just yet. Until then, show a little appreciation that they want to join in the fandom’s fun, and if you don’t like the directions they are going, remember that it’s OUR direction. WE are the ones who established who’s who. WE are the ones who built their personalities. WE are the ones who made their relationships. You are reaping what you sow, and if you don’t like the crop, might I suggest a different field for you grow in.
TL:DR The show is having fun with our ideas. Simmer down until it comes out, and then you can judge accordingly. Don’t judge the ideas alone. After all, they’re YOURS!”
Still, I don’t think people should be complaining so much about the staff incorporating things the fandom wants to see.
Whether it’s voluntary or forced, it’s still pandering to fans.
Whether’s it’s Map-a-licious, or Octavia and DJ-Pon3 are “besties”.
