Other than Scorpan’s design and little nods to G1 (The rainbow satchel and Midnight Castle) the FiM versions of the characters are hardly similar to the G1 versions. Like Spike.

Given that they seem to be two totally different species, they’re probably not biologically related. And you know what that means!

I know I’m going to hell for this because they’re siblings in FiM canon but this makes me want to go back to shipping them

I heartily approve of Tirek’s design. I’m less enthusiased by muppety Scorpan. It’s not just the choice in design either. After looking at lovingly detailed Tirek, you end up with the feeling that the artist just didn’t feel like bothering much with him.
 
Also, I wish he was less obviously nice. I’d like to imagine that the ponies brought out the good in him, and that he was just a crappy reluctant villain originally who hadn’t found his place in the world yet as a good guy.
 
Despite everything I’ve said, I’m still giddy about finally seeing him in official material again, and I’ll gladly take sweet, toony Scorpan over no Scorpan any day.

Everyone looks dumb when they´re teens! Although I imagined Scorpan would be taller. I suppose their age difference is greater than I thought initially.

I’m not saying the designs are bad. As you note, they’re doing a great job of characterizing the brothers. They just strike me as rather silly.
