Then I foresee a hefty investment in her therapist in the near future. Perhaps a few sleepless nights where she shivers under her blanket and tries to ignore the sounds of Kali outside her window saying, “Hey, Twilight, let me in! I’m a snek faerie!”

Given the crushing power that most large snakes have per square inch, I don’t really think there’s much that military training can do to help you against cuddles as powerful as these. You’d be better off asking her if she’d at least let you get to the phone so you can call off work.

Oh, I used to, let me see.

Nope. Livestream’s lost them.

I’ll just note you once I finish putting the one I saved on Dropbox; Though it doesn’t include the first massive chunk of time where I define the character profile. Its still a good 45 minutes long, but that’s partially due to it being a commission, so obviously I put more time and effort into it than my own personal drabbles and have to consult references a lot more frequently.

It’s honestly not that time consuming or overly meticulous. This picture took a while, but it also has a fair bit of detail and a full background. It was probably an hour and a half to two hours to vector fully. Things like this take about 15 to 20 minutes. As it stands now the absolute most time-consuming thing I’ve ever made, to the point that I’m actually hesitant to draw the character because of it, is this gal just for the sheer amount of work and time that goes into her legs that added up to about 5 total hours stretched over a week just to vector the character herself. I put a fair amount more time into the rough sketches themselves than I do the vector process because I want them to look like something straight out of the show.

You way of doing things sounds pretty interesting. Do you ever do streams or speedpaints? I’d be interested in seeing it in action if you do.

Man I would have no patience for vectoring.

My process is significantly more basic because I am a lazy chump and use a mouse because I can’t tablet.
Using this adorasexy bit of tatzl vore Suspega did that I colored for example.

First step when working with my own sketches is to copy them, duplicate them, multiply one layer over the other and merge them again to darken them up, adjusting the multiply layer’s opacity as needed.

With judicious use of “add selection” and “remove selection” freehand select tooling, I trace out the characters and fill them in on a hidden layer with a solid color which I can very quickly wand-select. I do the background first, incrementing in about 2 pixels to make sure I don’t leave a gap between the characters and background. Then I start with the character’s main coat coloring, using a basic brush I’ve very slightly tweaked to get where I like it. Not having pressure sensitivity means that when I want it darker, I make multiple passes.

Once I get the coat colors, I freehand crop away my selection where I want to preserve my color, leave some selection where I want things to blend, then paint on the contrasts and details, then trace around any ugly anti-aliased borders with a small blur tool.

I apply any shading on the rare occasions I can motivate myself to do so on an additional multiply layer over the colors, typically using a matching-color-tinted light gray airbrush. A similar layer set to luminosity instead of multiply works for highlights.

It’s a little time consuming, but not as hard as you’d imagine. Since I do the final version using non-flattened vector lines, there’s a fair amount of freedom in being able to adjust them mid-drawing to get them looking right. The most time consuming part is doing her stripes. Here’s how I do it:

Hey Squish, this looks pretty cool man, nice work. I have a question…

With getting the coils of her snake body correctly must have been difficult. Was it hard to draw?

Or you could do all the monster ponies in a series of pictures dealing with them being in some sort of Zoo/Jurassic park style theme park. Complete with the excited/horrified reactions of what science has done!

I keep thinking that characters like wheely bopper, tatzlpones and the alp-luachra need more arts. But I’ve already done a combination of the first two.

So obviously I need to either do a Tatzluacra or Alp Bopper.
