I thought it was a loose end of her belt or something like that, but I see now the colors don’t quite match up.
 
A bookmark makes more sense in this context than a gun, but when I zoomed in the pic to 200% (Thanks, Firefox add-ons!) it sort of looked like another book. I went in to 400%, though, and I guess it actually might be gun…
