It’s when a fic writer deliberately ignores someone’s characterization with the intent of casting them in a negative light, with the real justification being they don’t like said character. It’s normally seen when you see stuff like Celestia being a horrible Tyrant, but it applies equally to this making a talented guitarist perform on Snips and Snails (with a bad attitude to boot.)

Yes it’s pretty clear that Flash is supposed to be a bad musician and it kinda irks me. I think he’s a pretty bland character that only exists because someone thought that they would need a sorta-kind-of-but-not-really love interest for Twilight but then nobody at the staff knew what to do with him. Still the movies established that he is a pretty good guitar player, so this feels wrong. It’s like writing a story were Rainbow Dash comes last in a race just because I don’t like the character.
that shot of the judges really drives the point across (adagio could just be being herself, calling flash awful) that flash is a bad musician ain’t it? losing to snips and snails would just really, really make it clear that the writer is not fond of him.
That’s only going to happen if both bands would make it to final or the groups are switched around. Even then it’s hard to imagine ANYONE losing to Snips and Snails. Plus making Flash an even more horrible musician than these two despite him being part of a band for quite some time just because you hate his guts is normally a sign of bad writing.
Some use Brad to refer to the human counterpart, Flash for the pony counterpart.
Speaking canon its always been Flash Sentry, Brad was just a fan nickname, it has no absolutely canon ties and appears in nothing official.
