And then a little bit later you see him wearing one of the pony-ear headbands from the first movie and hoping no one notices the difference.
I’d definitely love for that to be a funny background event. Like, everyone else is just ponying up but Norman’s just looking around like “Wait, what the fuck?”
You know what would be pretty funny? If they gave a nod to Normal Norman’s fan given name by making him the only person who didn’t get anthrofied.
Well, maybe not that funny, but still kind of funny.

It would also catapult the importance of expanding the human world into depths I don’t think they can tread quite so easily.
I think they’re more focused on spreading the friendship than the magic.
If that’s the case, I personally think it would be a bit more logical storywise to be a tad more gradual than that. You know, start with DJ Pon-3 & maybe one or two other friends before another story that spreads it really far.
Or at least a far spread result should happen pretty late into the movie.
Actually, the other students gaining pony powers would be a logical progression. The theme of the show post-Twilicorn is spreading the magic of friendship beyond the Mane 6. That was the point of the S4 arc, it’s apparently the premise of S5, and you even saw it to a lesser extent in the first two EqG movies. Spreading that magic to the rest of Canterlot High would fit the pattern–and it would justify the background-pony dolls having the same anthro features as the mane characters.
They’d probably go out of their comfort zone for their friends though. I doubt the rest of the team would have their own henshins though. Sunset got one in the last movie because she was already a unicorn as well as twilight, and the other 5 are elements of harmony, which I imagine are a constant across all dimensions
So would the rest of their team pony up? There’s no way just 7 Girls carry an entire soccer team, especially with a Fashionista like Rarity and timid Fluttershy on the team.
If they do pony up, it’d probably because they were all playing on the same team. My theory is just that their magic doesn’t pop out unless they’re doing something that requires them all working together in “harmony” if you will.
That is also a likely theory. EqG 4 is Sportsapalooza, where the Shadowbolts are infected with dark magic and can only be defeated through epic sports moves where each girl plays a different sport and ponies up for plot convenience!

This bothers me too. FiM is filled to the brim with cliches as well but people like to ignore that when it comes to eqg hate.
Eh, EQG2 was still pretty cliche in its own right. “Battle of the bands” has been done a bunch of times in the past. As a whole, EQG2 was only slightly better than EQG1. So, still pretty terrible.
Cliches really do not matter if they are pulled off well, everything has been done before. EQG 1 didn’t pull it’s story off well but EQG 2 did so people liked it.
