With a little amped-up cello in the background (a la Apocalyptica) by Octavia!
I can see Rarity offering an operatic voice if they were Symphonic Metal.
If the Rainbooms were a metal band then I imagine the line up would be something like this:
Twilight Sparkle: Clean Vocals
Sunset Shimmer: Harsh Vocals (I don’t know why but I can see Sunset as a growler)
Rainbow Dash: Lead Guitar
Fluttershy: Rhythm Guitar (I’m ditching the Tambourine because I find it pretty useless in rock music even more in Metal)
Applejack: Bass
Rarity: Keyboard
Pinkie Pie: Drums
I have to admit I haven’t seen Rainbow Rocks because I haven’t been very interesting in it because I didn’t like the first movie that much but allot of people have said that Rainbow Rocks is better than the first movie so I might give it a watch someday
Seems sometimes that even with music that’s not targeted at kids, the “rock vs pop” seems lightly superfluous, at least when it comes to some “older” bands. Even if we remember pop-rock genre. :P
Aha, my kinda guy!
Besides Hard Rock and Metal, I do like my fair share of Pop Rock too. Especially 60s/70s. I’m only 23, but I’m a bit of an old soul I guess.
And dayumn, if The Rainbooms sounded more like that, I bet dear ol’ Principal Celestia and VP Luna would cover their ears and squeal at the band’s audition!
Maybe less so with Luna. And some of their school mates might still dig it, almost all of them weren’t so busy puttering around grumpily in a cloud of green fart gas!
Back when I was a teenager at church 15 years ago (holy crap), I had my share of overly concerned moms freaking out over the music my friends and I listened to. Good times.
I was raised on bands like Led Zeppelin, Motorhead and Metallica, so it took a long time for me to like Pop Rock. The late 90s produced some awesome bands of the genre, i.e., Third Eye Blind.
Could you imagine the reactions if The Rainbooms sounded like KITTIE Cut Throat? =)
Ah, good point. Very good. The music was still quite enjoyable, even given its usual “target audience” with the musical format and all. Even as more of a Hard Rock fan, I would still so get the soundtrack!
After all, it’s MLP, and Ingram has indeed composed quite a few “pop” classics, I’d say.
Love the little bit you mentioned about the tightly wound housemoms. :D
It’s the sort of “Rock music” I expect from any TV show/movie aimed at kids or tweens. It has an edge of Rock, so it doesn’t sound too bland, but it can’t be too Rock or tightly wound housemoms might think Satan is involved.
Overall, the music in RR was enjoyable. I assumed awesome remixes would be out within a couple days of the movie’s launch and I was right.
Technically…
But with exceptions like “Awesome As I Want To Be”, more pop than rock in my opinion. “Shake Your Tail” doesn’t rock that much, though it is a pretty nice song.
Sooooooo… Pop Rock?

But still a cute image!
