Death is weird.
In terms of death, I think the best one could hope for would probably be the sudden/instant variety, not knowing what hit them, maybe not even knowing they’d been hit.

While drowning is certainly not the most physically painful death (burning to death comes to mind) (also not to say drowning is pleasant by any means), it’s downright brutal on the emotional level, because it gives you ample time to realize the situation you’re in, that knowledge that you’re doomed, that you will never see anyone or anything else that life has to offer, and that there’s not a goddamn thing you can do about it.
I have a fetish for non-sexual drowning, aka a brutal and painful death.
I know there are other much more painful deaths, but… I don’t even know.
