She has I don’t want to fall out or puke strength going on at the moment.
I think your forgetting that MLP’s Red Ranger is more of a Designated Protagonist then most Red Rangers. Hell even one of the writers compared her to being the ‘x-men cyclops’ of the group. Not to mention the plot favors Twilight so much, outside the most recent movie, she has a giant castle with her own flag and has gotten to the unrelatable character point of Too Big To Fail in the show.
I’m not saying your wrong, its just that its hard to even write Twilight’s character in a bandito/mercenary/hero setting without really developing her character in a more positive direction. She has a lot of lovable, quirky qualities, but she is often written in the show as too much of an unrelatable tool. What also hurts Twilight is that MLP now has both a White Ranger(Pony Rainbow Dash) and a Green Ranger(Sunset Shimmer) that are more relevant and capable as future Red Rangers. At times it felt like S4 and Rainbow Rocks were intentionally showing this…like when you compare Flight to the Finish and Twilight Time side-by-side, it goes out of its way to show how clueless and unwise Twilight can be, while not even hinting that she wants to improve.
(sorry about the overuse of tropes)
I really like Twi and how they explored her flaws in both the comics and the most recent movie…but in the show, what do we do when our ‘Red Ranger’ is more Shinji Ikari then most heroes? She isn’t even THAT much of a team hero. She has always kept her emotions for her friends at hooves length, especially in comparison to her devotion to Celestia.
Seriously it’s like having the power rangers without the Red Ranger.
I agree, but its sometimes harder then you think.
When you create a vivid alternate universe filled with six heroes from a continuous show, you want the source material to continuously impress you, even for your least favorite in Sundown’s case. And if you already start drawing versions of that character, and then some episodes air like Crystal Empire or MMC and you start to dislike the character a lot more, I’m guessing you find lack of motivation to badass-up the character along with the others. Also, there’s personal preference and visualization. Sundown normally draws his characters as heroic vagabonds, where an alicorn princess would look very out of place.
(Spike I think he simply didn’t figure out a good design for, he drew Twilight a lot more then Spike. He did 3 or 4 pictures with an older design, then did one or two with a younger design)
I’m a little different when it comes to writing for Twilight. If I’m writing a hero story, I try to take Twilight from around Nightmare Rarity’s place in the timeline, late S3, and progress her character from there based on natural character development, unaffected by sudden race swap, power up and national recognition.
I hope nobody takes that the wrong way, but unless her princesshood is part of the plot, its a hard thing to write around in a big story. I try to avoid situations like Rarity Takes Manehatten having to ignore her alicorn-ness.
More accurate :U
…Well technically, they do exist. It’s just that Sundown really doesn’t like Twilight, so he almost never draws her. And since Spike is always with Twilight, he gets left out too.
Okay, for as long as I’ve looked at Sundown’s art, that never really crossed my mind.
Did you not see who the artist is? In Sundown’s universe, Twilight and Spike don’t exist.
