I would call that cruel until I realized that’s what I’ve been doing to every RPG character I’ve ever created/played as. They get stronger for it and I get amusement from it. Works out for both of us.

To be fair, you can only destroy the mortals that try to best you so often before you get bored. As such, when Chrysalis fought Celestia, the Princess of the Sun threw the fight to see what losing was like for once.

If you think about it, the phrase “My Little Pony” - in the Friendship is Magic universe - could be derived from Celestia herself. That’s usually what she would say when referring to any of her subjects. I always like to think that the title, ‘My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic’, is actually Celestia’s statement to Twilight Sparkle. “My little pony, friendship is magic.” It would make the idea that Celestia really is influencing Twilight’s path more intricately than what is shown more plausible. Since, it would imply that Celestia is actually interconnected with the 4th wall.
 
But, this is just something I like to think.
