Yep, CMs are more like vague indicators of the pony’s special talent. In this comic, Lyra is also pretty good (not extremely good though, and also a bit rusty) with other string instruments, like electric guitars.

Interestingly, I’ve read nothing official that’s indicated the lyre is her talent, as much as singing and cheerfulness. From what I’ve read, her last name and cutie mark were merely chosen because of the phrase “tug at the heartstrings”. Kind of like how Pinkie Pie is a balloon sellsmare, but the embodiment of laughter and partying.

Lyra raises a good question. It’s difficult to think of a good answer in universe why pony’s names would match their cutie marks so well.

Well in some fan comics she bitching around too. But it’s true, the few lines she had in the show where quit bitchy. Except the “incredible amazing doll” line in Lesson Zero.
