Given that Hasbro is half-owner of the Hub, I think it’s safe to say that’s where future Transformers shows will end up.

And even setting that aside, after CN completely screwed Animated over, that was probably the last straw.
Background Pony #FC3D
The infamous SuperLink/Energon Wheeljack/Downshift/Cliffjumper naming incident… That is not just counting the FIRRIB/RIRFIB thing, which will just go on.

Or it’s just the colorful linguistics.

By 2007, TakaraTomy (a year after their merger) had to use (most of) the official trademarked names provided by Hasbro thanks to the 1st Bay-Spielberg flick, now that the world knows the name Optimus Prime instead of ___ Convoy. The Japanese just need to get used to the long katakana forms of those names. There was a post-credits segment in the J-dub of TF Animated where Bumblebee must say the name of the Optimus Prime.

Whether Hasbro can reciprocate with the given Japanese names, it might be a long way - official examples: Leozack for a convention exclusive; Fang Wolf (Cybertron Snarl) and Jarugar (the missile buggy and the hip and thighs component of the gestalt Liokaiser) for the 2014 KRE-O toyline; the character Star Saber appearing in the IDW comics.

Let’s just hope that CN never handle another Transformers show, maybe other Hasbro IPs as well.

They do that to all the Japanese dubs of English Transformers shows, since Beast Wars, actually. And it’s the same guy in charge of doing so every time. Plus, the English versions of Armada and Energon came out bad because of time crunch due to, IIRC, Cartoon Network making unreasonable demands. The English-to-Japanese dubs were that way because they chose to be.

Also, while Micron Densetsu was cleaned up a bit from Armada, the degree to which is happened is probably far less drastic than you might be thinking

And are you implying that certain series did not use “proper” Transformers names?
Background Pony #FC3D
@Scrounge
Armada came first with rushed animation, jank script writing with name confusions, complete with attempts on putting trademarks on proper names of Transformers characters (on Hasbro’s side).
4-5 months later, the Japanese version, Micron Densetsu, came out with less animation errors, the introduction of the 1st episode was very different from the Armada, and the intro songs are cooler. Starscream’s vocal tone, having heard that Armada’s is trying to do the G1 Starscream impression, while MD’s is deeper. Smokescreen in Armada is named Grapple on the Japanese version, Autobot turned Decepticon Wheeljack is named Rampage on the other, you get the gist.

For me, it is part of the reason why Prime J-dub, about 2 years after the original English, came out the way it was as payback. Megatron, for example: English is gravelly and threatening, Japanese is like a middle-aged Yakuza boss; Eng Starscream is gravelly and creepy, J Starscream is loud and weird; Eng Hardshell sounds like a deeper Animated Lugnut (y’know, David Kaye) while J Hardshell sounds like Waspinator and is more talkative. And the list goes on.
Some of the safe ones in the J-dub are Bumblebee, Soundwave (silent throughout), Arcee, Knockout and Silas.

Good call. Since EqG RR’s villains are a trio, I had to supply the following trio choices that I know.
By Car Robots episode 16, the trope Interservice Rivalry was put into play for the Predacons/Destrongers. By arguable analogy, either Adagio Dazzle (hence the band name) swings from making a dramatic but threatening entrance to being competent at the last moment, Sonata Dusk can be more of a demanding and preachy loyalist, or Aria Blaze almost always gets the job done, based on the sneak peek. Slapper, Gas Skunk and Darkscream are more like the Diamond Dog trio. At least, when the Saban dub version did something to fill in the interests of Transfans regardless of how different the writing was.

Should have added the 1986 movie trio to the choices: Adagio = Galvatron, Aria = Cyclonus, Sonata = Scourge. Season 3 and further, well…

Also Victory’s Decepticon trio: Adagio = Deszaras/Deathsaurus/whatever, Aria = Leozack, Sonata = Goryu/Slog. I watched from a few clips.

Prime’s Decepticon trio also qualifies, at later episodes: Adagio = Megatron, Aria = Shockwave, Sonata = Starscream (somehow).

If only there is an MLP villain appearing for a three-parter, probably reserved for Friendship Is Magic’s very finale.

Didn’t really watch enough Energon to get a good sense of Energon Megs, so can’t speak to that.

How about the Dazzlinga as the RiD/Car Robots bad guys, with Adagio as Megatron, and the other two as Scourge and Sky-Byte?

OK, I’ve returned. ’Net connection sucks because of bad weather. To continue…
Energon Megatron (originally SuperLink Galvatron) and Bayformers Megatron to any MLP G1 and G4 villain?

Mane-iac is perhaps more or less G1 Galvatron, post-movie.

What about The Dazzlings and
A. The G1 Decepticon Seeker trio
B. Decepticon Headmasters Weirdwolf, Mindwipe and Skullcruncher
C. Decepticon (Monster) Pretenders Bomb-burst, Skullgrin and Submarauder (or Blood, Dowlos/Dauros and Gilmer, respectively)
D. Animated (not quite Decepticon) Dirt Boss, Scrapper and Mixmaster
(Dis)honorable mention: the singing space elves from G1 episode “Carnage in C-minor”

Beast Machines Megs is Beast Wars Megs. Or supposed to be, anyhow. I’m counting them the same because it makes the comparison easier.

Ahuizotl could be Starscream, Animated Starscream in particular. Strong and decently cunning, but has a tendency to trip over his own ego and wind up looking like an idiot.
Background Pony #FC3D
@Scrounge
And Beast Machines Megs?
OK, OK, enough Megatron / Galvatron.

How about (G1) Zarak/Scorponok, the Dave Xanatos (Gargoyles) of the Decepticon leaders, specifically his role in TF The Headmasters? Not popular, but with good potential. Can’t find a good analogy between him and the MLP G1 and G4 threats.

(Fun Fact: Same seiyuu as Chief Thunderhooves)

Hadn’t connected Animated Megs to Tirek, but it really does work. Locked away, finds an unwitting pawn to return him to his former glory, initially seems an unstoppable force with his stolen power? Nicely done.

Beast Wars Megs would be Trixie with the Alicorn Amulet. Both were made what they were by an ancient artifact that should never have been allowed to fall into their hands, both are driven by a thirst for power and vengeance, both are absolute drama queens, both turn the place the heroes call home into a fascist dystopia.

I don’t know, random choice; I had my inner Transfan re-awakened because of TF Armada, since I was once watched the G1 Takara trilogy as a kid going to school, dubbed in English for some reason. Do the Armada Decepticons count since since they have set up a base of ops on that wrecked starship on the moon? Not quite similar to N Moon being banished or forced to reside on the moon for one millennium.

G1 or RID2001 Megatron inspires Ahuizotl’s character, using his minions to do most of the dirty work. Just my observation.

Cybertron/Galaxy Force Megs, noted, but not ignored. When shall there be a Super Mode or Battle Mode Princess Celestia as a toy for the niñas? Then again, the Mane 6 would not want to be overshadowed by her. This applies to Luna and Cadance/Cadence, as well.

Funny thing is that I imagine Armada Megs with FIM Pinkie instead of his Mini-con to challenge Cheese Sandwich and his Party Panzer.

Yes, you’re right about Animated Megatron. He is parallel to FIM Tirek.

Prime Megs is less overused than G1 Megs by a long run, but have it your way.

If we’re going with the versions of Unicron Trilogy Megatron, I’d pick Cybertron for this. He showed some weird powers of darkness, including shooting lightning like Nightmare Moon did, his ultimate goal was to reshape the universe in his image, similar to Nightmare Moon’s goal of creating an eternal night (as she embodied the night and the moon, this would more or less be in her image whether she meant it that way or not), and he has a jet mode, so they both fly. Plus, Nemesis Breaker could paralel the Shadowbolts.

Anyhow, RiD Megs is probably off limits (and is as inept as G1 Megs if not more anyhow), and Animated Megs doesn’t seem to fit, but why did you pick Armada Megs over, say, Beast Wars Megas, out of curiousity?
Background Pony #FC3D
@Ichijoe
“Best” Megatron whose alt mode is as immobile as a paper weight and is dependent on the second person?
“Best” Megatron whose attempts at destroying his archnemesis, at least in the first 2 seasons, botch most of the time?
“Best” Megatron whose 80’s villainy does not include character development?

LOLZ!

His successors, namesake-wise or not, are MORE successful, even in the alt mode department. Animated Megs shall scrap YOUR ONLY Megs to Kingdom come.

BREAK IT DOWN!

Oh, and Cel animation…still debatable.

@Scrounge
Or Armada Megatron. Prime Megs is a bit overused.

I’ll take a rhino over yet another friggin’ sports car any day, and, the 90s CGI is certainly no uglier than the error-riddled 80s cel animation of G1.

Duck - Shills for Shillary

Beast Wars sucked dude… Cars, Planes, Trains etc… > Cats plus that crappy 90s 3D CGI ghastly absolutely ghastly.

MLP:FIM is the correct uses of CGI (ie Flash), Transformers 3D CGI… not so much… Though it is better then it used to be… Though Cell Animation is still the BEST!

I have to say, I think this would have been better if they used the Transformers: Prime version of Megatron instead. Dark Energon corruption and all…
