Because reasons.
While the real reason is that they’re easier to trademark, pony names always seemed more like superhero-esque codenames to me. Two of Hasbro’s other big franchises are G.I. Joe and Transformers, which also do that. Heck, there’s also Gem, which is based off of rock stars, who do that in real life.
They’re doing the comic book thing where everyone is using a memorable moniker, that might or might not be their real name. Same people give their pets people names.
As for Zoe Trent…
Well, some people are actually named Zoe. It’s distinctive, but not a strange name in real life.
They all have really weird names. Pony names work because it’s in a land with magic and weird shit going on all the time.
All the pets have the last name of their owners, I guess.
Doesn’t matter now, EqG is actually beating MH because Hasbro realized they don’t need to try with toys if they make the media decent. And by not trying with the toys, they can sell them for half as much. Seriously, I checked the prices between them and their competition at a store today and EqG costs less than half of MH on average.
It’s a living example of their “toys don’t matter as much, media and social media do” policy they’ve had for about two years.
They honestly thought SheZow was going to be the next “big thing” in general, like with licensing and toy sales and everything.
Actually it’s because the eldritch alien abominations that created humanity from shoggoth-like slime millennia ago were colors that our primitive eyes perceive as pink and purple. The frequent occurrence of these colors in childrens’ entertainment are buried ancestral memories based on primordial fear, fears that echo in our crude cartoons, which act as some sort of unknown prayer, a mantra, unwittingly broadcast to the cosmos in hopes of preventing our creator’s return to cleanse the Earth of humanity’s infestation.
Or maybe corporate execs think pink and purple sell to little girls. I dunno.
Oh wait you were referring to your previous comment. Never mind.
@Itsthinking
How was SheZow a new MLP?
They aren’t.
How could I forget about that? What is it with pink stripes on purplish hair? Everyone looks like twilight.
Yeah, the thing is that they needed EqG to compete with something made for an older audience. The thing they’re competing with is stereotypically girly and EqG is slightly better, so they win I guess?
See @Itsthinking
Trying to push LPS as “the new MLP” didn’t work. Just like pushing Care Bears, SheZow, and Strawberry Shortcake as “the new MLP” didn’t work. To be fair to LPS, it’s better than any of those shows and I appreciate the effort that’s put into them. It’s just not anywhere near FiM in terms of whimsy or appeal.
