i duuno, i rely too much on ebay. A rhino still on the sprue sets me back £13 (free shipping) the only thing ive purchased from GW was a stormtalon. but to get my skills back i was practicing on tyranids which i then sold. after i painted what i wanted and sold off the spares i made about £200 profit. then used that to buy me some marines

I’m curious as to how much profit could be made selling a pony themed 40k model.
Are there enough fans out there that’d be interested?
A rhino APC model is £22.50 off the shelf, then you’re talking around 5-6 hours at least painting it.

i tried painting a titan once, Did 2 legs to the tyranid biotitan and all i managed was 2 legs gave up on that and sold it off. Made a small profit from it though

Worst time consuming model I’ve done up to now, is my forge world Reaver titan. Took over 4 months painting 1-2 hours a day, (with breaks of course).
My chaos Reaver took around the same.

I normally paint my models in my dinner breaks at work, (nobody cares, or even looks at what I’m painting at work). So around 1/2 hour a day is spent painting something.
I usually do 2 figures at a time, and they take me 2-3 days. (More if they’re excessively detailed).
Tanks take around a week.
The Derpy gunship took 2 1/2 weeks.

Yeah i have to get in what i can too. 50+ hours of work a week. Then theres shuff that also eats up my time like making plushies, cosplays or just general tarantula maintenance. So i have to prime and add base colours between 13hour shifts and once my days off hit the first is 8am till 3am just painting. the second day is “other” but yeah each model is about 3-4 hrs for a basic troop, elites about 6hrs and tanks well in excess of 20. The imperial knight took all of 2 weeks just to paint

I find doing that much work on a figure that’s probably going to see 2-3 games a week is a bit much, as handling the tends to rub off the paint. I do put that much work in to centerpiece models (official 40k named character figures usually), although I’m hopeless when it comes to faces. Can’t seem to get details right.

Still, when I have a backlog of models that need painting that’d be equivalent to a whole gaming club’s collections, spending an excessive amount of time on each figure isn’t productive enough. (Having a skilled job and living with my parents till I was 30 meant plenty of disposable income, although I now have a family and home of my own so funds aren’t as accessible now).

not bad thats what ild consider stange two on my painting. Then comes in dry brushing in darker colours, dry brushing over with base colours then lighter colours. then comes highlighting. i go through a drybrush every 2 units

Not my best painting I must admit. The edging on the pauldrons isn’t as straight as I’d have liked.
