A special one-shot issue featuring the ponies pets! When some new trouble comes into Ponyville, all of our normal heroes are incapacitated. Luckily help is on the way in the form of Angel, Owlicious, Gummy, Tank, Winona and Opal! Will they be able to use teamwork to save the day?
I’d watch it!
Or that he’s not allowed to buy carrots from Carrot Top without Fluttershy’s approval.
I’m just saying that the FF series doesn’t require one Mane 6 character in the pairing. They have a lot of flexibility and experimentability with one-shots that tossing in a BG character is completely possible.
For canon-breaking, I meant more as fanon-breaking, that’s what would create the problem from the fans.
I would guess that we would see a mane 6 / bg story in FF before we’d see a full bg-only character story, if only to make sure it goes over reasonably well.
Granny Smith is a supporting character, and the Flim Flam brothers are villains.
Also, what do you mean ‘canon-breaking’? There is very little about them that is canon. I like background jokes, but giving them some depth may be interesting.
Simply put: No risk, no reward.
Probably an intentional filler for something big planned for issue 25
@MezzoDragon
They said at the creation of the FF series that it could easily feature background (as opposed to just side) characters in addition to mane pairings. Also, as evidence: we just got a FF about Granny and the Flim/Flam bros. Not a single Mane 6 to be seen.
Also consider: if they made a story based on characters without any specific show-set personality, lets say, Lyra and Bon-bon, and they slighted anything that fandom has said about the pairing, they would get crap from us about it (eg: see Katie Cook and the flak she’s getting from the current arc). Background jokes on these are good that last for a panel or two, but I can’t imagine the fandom’s reaction to 28 pages of canon-breaking material.
Even if he is, he still has a soul-piercing stare.
Big Mac isn’t a background pony. Also, the Friends Forever focus on the Mane 6 and various villains. Thinking about it makes me hope Gilda will make a return.
But anyway, I still stand by my (rather silly) complaint: most of the more notable background ponies are being ignored. If the comics must focus on the mane 6 (and I’ve no problem with that), why can’t they include some of the background ponies more directly?
Friends Forever series does not focus on background characters.
Side characters =/= background characters
Background ponies are “background ponies” for a reason: they’re meant to be background filler, not actual characters.
They already did: that was the Big Mac arc. And also arguably the point of the Friends Forever series.
