Not just that she sold her bass, but literally like 1 hour later she can’t remember that Applejack plays the bass.

That’s… not a good adult to be raising 3 kids.

Given that she sold Applejack’s guitar, I can see why they’d want to put her in a home. Also, human Granny Smith is having some senility problems, while pony Granny Smith only seems to take leave of her senses occasionally.
