Can that even be possible? Then again, judging from the upcoming IDW miniseries Godzilla: Cataclysm (which is set AFTER a Kaiju apocalypse) I think we’re getting just that.
I think most people did.
That, or an extra gritty version of the original 1950s Godzilla movie.
Ah yes, I wanted to hear that theme as well. I also wanted to hear G’s more traditional, screechy roar. It may be kind of weird, but at least it would distinguish his from that of a Jurassic Park dinosaur.
My turn:
I would have liked it if there was a two-minute longer battle between Godzilla and Hokmuto before he finally finished her off.
It didn’t have the Akira Ifukube theme, not even as a ringtone cameo.
Elle and Ford could have had a little bit more interaction on screen.
It felt too short.
That’s pretty easy. When the big guy was on the screen and doing something, I enjoyed the heck out of it. That’s what I went to see, not a whole bunch of people creeping around in caves/on train tracks/in laboratories/through jungles/etc. Godzilla’s movements and appearance were spot-on, and his atomic breath (with only two short appearances) was fun to see. He was a lot smaller than the posters showed him being, however. The other monsters looked and behaved well enough also, but they got way more time in the movie than G did.
Well, how about a truce, you at least state what you did like and I’ll state what I think the movie could improve on. ’Kay?
Oh please. I never said anything about anyone else’s enjoyment of the film. The “immature” one here is the guy who descends into personal attacks because he doesn’t like what the other has to say. The way people get so irate over a little criticism of a movie they’re a fan of is definitely something I could mock, but such behavior is pretty self-evident anyway.
You know what dude, you could have just said you had problems with it but don’t mind if other people enjoyed it, but who am I to bother arguing with one of the most immature people on this site?
I didn’t find any of it to be worthy of “fear”. Their attempts at building atmosphere and mood just made it slow and boring. Besides, you know the real reason Godzilla didn’t have much screen time is due to the fact that animating him had to be staggeringly expensive.
Here’s a little something
The less we see of Godzilla, the more of a powerful and threatening beast he really is. You need to find a balance between humans and monsters and, in this new film, whenever the Kaiju were onscreen, they dominated the screen. The fear comes from atmosphere. That’s why the Transformers movies (while guilty pleasures to me) have less impact to me, because we either see too little of the robots, or too much of them.
No, those were some of the best ones.
And those ones probably sucked too.
Of actual combat? I think you’re remembering that wrong. If the DVD were out we could analyze it, but sadly all we’ve got is “he said she said” at the moment.
There are some Godzilla movies where Godzilla doesn’t even show up until an hour in.
Five minutes? Felt more like thirty minutes.
Yes, there was human drama in the original, but it didn’t completely dominate the film. A good deal of time was devoted to just showing Godzilla stomp around.
I’m not interested in 110 minutes of “buildup” for a five-minute payoff (if it was even that much).
It’s a reboot. It’s a new continuity, new universe and new stories. The first movie will NEVER be duplicated. Also, if I recall, there was human drama in the 1954 film as well and it felt like a soap opera, but, like this new film, it also served a purpose.
I haven’t seen either of those, but what I expected was for it to be like the original Godzilla movie. Or at least like one of the myriad of Godzilla vs. movies out there. Instead, I got a movie mostly about radiation-sucking monsters who eventually had an on-screen fight with the big lizard. Godzilla 2000 had the two monsters fighting almost constantly, but here, all we get is another cheesy human drama and a whole lot of tunnel-creeping.
How many Godzilla movies have you seen?
I Wish it was really a Cranston movie.
Did you go in expecting it to be like Pacific Rim or Final Wars?
