I’m thinking along those lines as well. Which definitely gives me hope that it’ll look much friendlier as time goes on, on both the inside and outside.
 
Between all the mane 6 (but especially Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Applejack), it should be much more homey. Maybe we could also get some foliage or some such.

The more i look at it, it looks more and more like a place where the villain would life, and not main protagonist. Really the only thing missing is a dark scary forest behind it.  
And I don’t know why that is. Because the palace in the crystal empire looks fine. But that thing doesn’t has as many edges and looks more smooth and the inside is much brighter.

I never liked the whole “Crystal Pony” architecture design, it was nothing but cold mixes of light blue and pink to begin with, the sharp lines being the only way for a form to be constructed. There was no sense of homeliness and openness to it, let alone any semblance of warmth.  
And now that architectural atrocity is bang smack in the middle o’ rural, thatched-roof Ponyville, talk about one terrible change of scenery

Probably because it took them two years to make toys of Nightmare Moon, and even longer for Chrysalis, and they’re mostly Celestia repaints. Sunset was the only one to have a toy out BEFORE she showed up on screen, because she was a regular brushable pony.
 
As awesome as they might be, I’m not holding my breath for Discord or Tirek toys.

Was I the only one that got the impression that this thing was less a “Castle for Princess Twilight” and more of a clubhouse for the Mane Six? I mean, they all got their own thrones and everything. I like it.

I feel like a total neckbeard for saying this but I’m not taken with the location as shown from this angle, nor the exterior design for that matter, the layout for it all is just kinda…frumpy. I swear I don’t have any hair on my neck, I wear my facial hair with everything but the neck.
 
Does that look like a lake back behind there to anyone else?

Well not the exact same spot, but close enough. Plus the new castle is a bit cold looking. It is clearly missing this warmth the Library had. But maybe Rarity can help Twilight to feel more comfortable in it.  
The good side is that she has now much more room for her books… wait a minute.

Chrystal Tree Castle. This was the really big thing I didn’t like in the episode. Just how it popped up in Ponyville where the Golden Oak Library was. Instead where the crystal tree was standing. Would this have been to far away for her to life in? It is not like she couldn’t fly or teleport.

I would like to point out they already made a Twilght’s Castle playset last year, and it barely even resembles that one. Which is pretty par for the course for the toys, honestly.
