It would seem so, according to the text. Behind those droopy eyes is a feeling of pure fear. Sipping that cider was a hellish chore to push through for Maud. It also explains why she smashed the rock, rather than peeling it. She hates Apples. And the possibility of being related to the Apple Family was possibly what originally pulled her into a depressive state.
