Ah, apologies: I was stating the premise behind carpdime’s method of “foal distribution”, which is “foal in a can”.

And of course it wouldn’t remember those details, but it would damn well remember enough to recall what made it feel especially happy or miserable, and as a result, what leads to those things (pooping where it’s not allowed leads to the use of a sorry stick or sadbox, listening to hooman leads to sketties and huggies, etc.)

In the end, it’s directly related to the demand for them. You could keep several and none buy them, or you could keep hundreds and be near an elementary school-district. There’s plenty of things to consider.

Griffons may be closer to “big dogs”, but they’re still capable of complex thought much as how most humans are. Then again, feeding and training would be full of trials and tribulations in and of itself.

Do you really think a fluffy has the mental capacity to remember every little detail as to why its owner left them? Pounds have mostly feral fluffies (according to most art” or fluffies that were kicked out by their owners. Fluffies are trained in pet shops if you believe some fics and art, if they aren’t trained they aren’t put in the sale box.

Fluffies are not cute, they try to be really cute but it just ends up being “gross”. Seriously, the unneeded amounts of fluff, the baby speech. It just makes it disgustingly cute. Which is horrible.

Griffons are more like big dogs, they aren’t for “casual” pet owners, they are more for “hardcore”.

@Dangerous Amoeba
Comparing a fluffy kept from when it’s an infant to when it’s slightly older, a fluffy only lives up to an average of five years. Therefore, since buying a fluffy NEW would be cheaper, a pound that has plenty that are less than a year old would be meaningless. If it was, say, two or three years old, then at least it’s well past the stages of infancy.

This would be a means of getting a domesticated fluffy from a domesticated family that decided they no longer wanted one. It doesn’t need to be trained in a domesticated manner; it’s already adept to that style of living.

One aspect of fluffies that draws others towards them, is how cute they are. Griffons aren’t cute, and are hardly even fluffy. In fact, they’re quite vicious. A fluffy pony is wanted because it is what it is. A fluffy griffon’s more like the missing link between a bird and a “dragon”. Besides, the more sentient and capable the pet, the more likely it may betray the owner. There’s a sense of power most owners have over their fluffies; a feeling that’s heavily negated with fluffy griffons.

How does the length of time which the average fluffy is kept, dictate whether pounds are useful or not? Remember: most animals in pounds are ferals, people don’t normally give their fluffies to pounds. I still say “used” fluffies should just be incinerated, that way it does not add to the overflowing shelter or feral population.

Griffons can fly, and can talk and hold somewhat intelligent conversations.

@Dangerous Amoeba
Now you’re just making unfounded remarks. “Probably” doesn’t mean anything. Besides, these are meant to be kept for a small amount of time, not an extended period, or else the pound would’ve been pointless from the start.

… Also, a little late, but fluffy griffons are legitimately terrifying and hideous. If I wanted something that could be loyal, tough, and maybe even fluffy…

… I’d get a puppy.

@Dangerous Amoeba
Mature fluffy, given the basic intelligence fluffies possess, means “more grown-up fluffy”. Requires less food, is easily capable of learning about things like a food-bowl and “poopiebox”, etc. Mature is meant to mean that it’s more intelligent than it is at a younger age; nothing more than that, really.

@ShimmeringStallion
>Mature.
>Fluffy.
U wot m8?

If you want a mature pet get the fluffy griffons. They are infinitely more intelligent, loyal, tough, etc and they don’t sound like mentally disabled children in their speech, they talk like humans.

Well you can say “It’s proof that people don’t want them”, but depending on the source, the reason can differ entirely. Some are used for various forms of sport, some for breeding (as you said), hunts, milking, “Fluffy Runner”, or latest fads.

Again, it heavily depends on the source, but some display the appeal of fluffies as “They’re adorable as babies”, while other sources prefer having more mature ones. For those in particular, a pound with fluffy ponies would be ideal.

Fluffies don’t learn easily, without serious painishment. Fluffy pounds are usually shown keeping mares as milk bags and keeping foals with good colors and stallions with good colors. All others are killed or put in a pen and forgotten. Since shelters don’t generally care about “bad” fluffy colors, its proof that people don’t want them. Remember: business first.

@ShimmeringStallion
Thats not how fluffies work, they are not smart enough to understand such things without SERIOUS painishment. The way fluffy pounds are shown to work is: If a fluffy is an adult then is it female or male? If its a female, then they either turn it into a milk bag or if it has “good” colors sell it to a breeder. Else if a fluffy is male with good colors its breeder material and if it has bad colors it dies. Fluffy foals are kept alive, and really only if they have good colors. So from this it can generally be deduced that second hand fluffies are not wanted, becuase why else would they prefer to breed “good” colors? Alicorns are rare and wanted a lot, they probably keep those about.

Considering they would be caged singularly, so they wouldn’t get pregnant due to lacking a mate, the question of them having children is moot.

A fluffy that’s been domesticated would be desperate to return to that lifestyle, so putting it in a pound wouldn’t make it become selfish. If anything, it would think some of its past actions were wrong BECAUSE it had been placed in a pound, and would become prone to improve.

Especially since raising a fluffy from scratch is far more cumbersome than receiving “sloppy seconds”.

Duck - The world's first and only single-celled duck.

@ShimmeringStallion
How? Pounds are overflowing, these things often have more than 3 babies at a time, that means more fluffs therefor more overflowing. This is an animal you only want a few CAPABLE of producing viable offspring. What purpose does having a pound fluffy hold? Especially since fluffies don’t change (as in learn) much over their pathetic irrelevant life.

Duck - The world's first and only single-celled duck.

@ShimmeringStallion
IRL most pound are overflowing with animals. Most won’t get adopted because they are damaged, mentally and physically. Even PETA euthanizes animals. Not many people want a dog missing an ear or something, most prefer a “new” pet. Also fluffies live for 5 years so really 2 years is really old for a fluff, just euthanize it.
ShimmeringStallion

@Dangerous Amoeba
Wait, what’s that about “if they just WANT the fluffies to suffer further”?

Some DO think that the pound is a viable option compared to taking care of a pet, and for some pets, it is. In fact, it’s one of the closest to “giving a pet a second chance” that readily exists out there for families who may not have the finances to take care of a pet.

Yes, there’s thousands of pets that are euthanized, but they’re given time in pounds for someone else to pick them up. Besides, there’s pleeeenty of worse places for them to be. Breeding farm, toy company (block fluffies)… Hasbio-owned McFluffies…
