I think another problem is that we never saw Suri get her just desserts, which might rub people the wrong way. Gilda, Blueblood, the Flim Flam brothers, etc. all had some closure, but not her.
The one thing I’ve seen done with Suri is her being given a reasonable sympathetic backstory of sorts to justify her attitude (e.g. she was actually nice back in Ponyville, moved to Manehattan when she wasn’t able to compete with Rarity’s fashions, found that “niceness” didn’t cut it with the big city ponies, and therefore she became cynical and started playing by their rules).
Of course, she might’ve been unpleasant from the start, but I can see it both ways.
Heck, even Blueblood, whom everyone loves to hate, can be justified in saying that he’s a wealthy noblepony, of course he’s going to be a jerk.
Every jerk, bully, or other antagonist has some quality or justification that appeals to an artist, even if it’s as weak as Gilda’s “tough” personality and being the first griffon we’ve seen.
Suri, on the other hand, was just a bitch, through and through.
Nope, never watched an episode. /sarcasm
But hey, I doubt Diamond Tiara was popular when she first rolled around.
…I think.
Have you seen literally every other antagonist in this show?
Suri was a bitch. Mean people normally don’t become popular. Pretty simple logic, really.
Well, Suri was a rather mean spirited pony, but so were a lot of other characters that get tons, or at least quite a bit art.
But again, Coco was the star new character. People tend to remember her more. {Though I did remember both equally.}
