Yeah, the “Generations” thing is probably enough alternation as it is but perhaps this is the tyranny one?
As I recall, the Third Doctor once ended up in an alternate timeline with some tyranny implications, and the Tenth got stranded in one where they invented Earth-based Cybermen.
As a general rule, though, they prefer to avoid the concept, possibly because it’s confusing enough as it is. In-story, crossing the boundary between timelines is absurdly difficult/impossible.
