“MUH WAIFU”
At this point in this fandom’s timeline, they’re usually just troll OCs that some individuals produce to rustle with our jimmies.
If he falls does his mane get stuck in anything?
For that matter, is it a health hazard having that sharp of hair?
He looks as if he could get stuck if he headbutts a tree before felling it
Oh, I’m not against the idea of the mane 6 now falling in love; we’ve gotten enough time to know these characters that we know that “getting married to some rich stallion” is not their MO - heck, they pretty much said this in H&HD with Cheerilee seemingly not too worried about finding a soul mate. But, they are adults, and like most, will desire companionship of the opposite gender at some point, and so introducing the idea now does not throw anything off.
Rarity’s the only oddball here, and even then, her fantasies about Blueblood were less about settling down with him, and more about the elegance, pomp, and recognition that came as part of being around him, and clearly nothing on a romantic level.
Hence why I’d like to have seen more Flash, S4 and beyond, as Twilight’s first crush, mostly to play for laughs but representing that she’s no longer the antisocial nerd she started as. Or now that we know this world more, the concept of what a “pony date” would entail would be interesting to see. Key here, again, is we know dating and boys and all that are absolutely not the status quo for how the mane 6 think; if this was all shown much earlier, it would have thrown the show off its game of purporting to be the antithesis of girls’ cartoons. They’ve already shown they can handle some otherwise touchy subjects (death via AJ’s parents, procreation via Baby Cakes, bullying via Babs Seed, and likely handicaps via the Scoots episode seen in the animatic teaser), I think the current staff is clearly capable of writing two ponies having a clumsily-funny first attraction to each other.
Explains why the owner of this oc chose this mane style.
This writing style, and the over-used mantra… you seem awfully familiar. I can almost place it.
I don’t know why people think that the “nice guy” character is overused. Jerks and idiots undoubtedly occur more regularly in fiction. Besides, a kindhearted dude is a much better standard for an acceptable relationship than some arrogant twit would be.
The argument is, it is not that falling in love or having a relationship is bad, but that is takes away from Faust’s vision.
While avoiding themes like crushes and first dates on an episodic basis was a good choice, I don’t think a romance would make the characters less interesting. I like the idea of how an attraction drawing at least one of the characters into situations that they might not otherwise engage.
And maybe there just isn’t a character in the show that a fan thinks would match up well with the Mane 6. I can see why people would create OC’s for that purpose. So long as there’s effort involved in their creation, I don’t have an issue.
Yeah, that is a problem. More proof that the writers didn’t originally intend to make Flash. But I can’t seem to hate his design, potential that even he would’ve had, had the writers been more able to flesh him out.
he is a super boring, overuse, “nice guy” cliche, he had only one use in the film (detecting shoped pics) something that everyone else in the movie was (as it looks) too stupid to do.
It doesn’t help if seems he will remain as a flat character forever since he didn’t appeared in the official prequel comic
I agree; personally, I’d loved to have seen Flash have been a friend with Shining, and would act as a surrogate brother for Twilight that took over the Canterlot guard when Shining went to live at the Crystal Palace with Cadance. There’d be no question that Flash develops a crush for Twilight, but played out in puppy-love style, both he and Twilight acting all clumsily around each other. And then add in that Shining is also fully aware of this, and joking teases Flash to not harm a hair on Twilight.
But yeah, instead the general opinion is that he was foisted onto the movie and has zero personality and stole everyone’s waifu.
Good grief, two people being attracted to one another isn’t a “stereotype”, any more than eating is. And it can be cute, like in a little Pixar short, or it can be obnoxious, like in the Twilight series. As I think you are sort of saying, it’s all in how you work it.
I think the sheer hatred towards Flash was undeserved. I mean, he wasn’t an asshole, right? I thought people would hate him even more if he treated Twi like crap. But that’s not the case. I admit, it would make Flash a little bit more interesting and flawed… but… I certainly would’ve wanted kill him even more if that was the case.
Personally, I have almost zero problems with people shipping their OCs with canon characters. It’s art, right?
Now, if this was lesbian or gender reversed, the vote would be quite positive… this fandom…
This is well drawn. And normally well drawn images get positives votes, regardless og canon x oc BS. This OC… no offense, he looks like something straight out of the Pony Creator, with the extra spiky hairdo and tail as dead giveaways. And there is anything this community tends to be intolerant of, it’s Pony Creator creations, especially when shipped with everyone’s favourite waifu.
That’s my critique.
Speaking from how I’ve seen the fandom: Consider 1) how Faust developed the characters, not to play directly to female stereotypes but to at least include defining traits (like Twilight being the nerd), and 2) that her goal was to make a show aimed at girls that avoided all the past faults of previous shows aimed at girls.
The argument is, it is not that falling in love or having a relationship is bad, but that is takes away from Faust’s vision. I will note that personally, I would have loved to see more Flash in the show in a handful of episodes, and this “love interest” played out as a silly little flirting thing that, like Twilight and Cadance’s butt dance, would be a funny thing each time they see other; a humorous puppy love that wouldn’t have really harmed her character in any way and show a sign of growing up, since they have established via Shining and Cadance that ponies do fall in love as they get older.
“My Waifu!” But consider the fandom’s bulk reaction to Flash Sentry and even the remote chance he would have been a love interest.
There is a valid point that the mane 6 are… chaste? They are strong female personalities that don’t need to be hampered by a male, and the idea that they will start falling in love turns the concept of what these characters are into something else. At least in this time in their lives, they don’t need it (short of Rarity’s flirting that is played for laughs)
(And I have no idea if this request actually was meant to be shipping. The person wanted me to draw their OC looking miserable with Fluttershy comforting him, no suggestion of a ship’ped pair).
…Not that it stops me from openly mocking bad OCs, but still.
Yeah.
Though I agree with Irony. The mane is very anime-influenced so it looks out of place in MLP, as does the highly saturated coat. There’s nothing wrong with a dark coat, but it needs to be a dark pastel to look like it’s part of the surrounding world.
