This.

xD Precisely this, in fact, because of one simple reason.

Generally, people who comment "This" in reply to an earlier comment actually wish to "like" that comment, but "like"ing a comment is not something that's possible in Derpibooru's architecture (at least, it's never been so far).

If such a thing were possible, they could simply hit the "like comment" button instead of replying/quoting the post with "This" written underneath it. :) Simples.

Every now and then, I'll make a comment that's equivalent to "This", or that adds just a sentence more to a comment I agree with. It's not because I feel my deathless wisdom (from a BP — ha!) must be read, but because I want the original commenter to know they're not as alone as they may think.

But most of the time, they're superfluous, yes.

I don't entirely disagree. I too prefer a deeper sense of communication, it's endlessly more interesting to analyse. Similar to how comments on posts of any kind are favourable (in my opinion) to favourites and upvotes, because it gives you the chance to interact and exchange ideas.

But anything that isn't a hate filled or condescending comment these days, and better yet; something essentially positive in nature, I tend to accept a little easier. Lazy as it may appear sometimes.

I understand that. Like I said, it's a pet peeve, 'cause I feel like "this" shouldn't be a sentence by itself when there's a multitude of other words to express approval.

I suppose it's the equivalent of a ''comment upvote'' on sites that doesn't have such a system. I'd rather they say just 'this' when they have nothing to add, rather than feeling forced to analyse as to why they agree if they don't want — or can.

Those forced added segments don't necessarily add anything if it comes from a feeling of obligation.

It's better to view ''this'' as an upvote or agreeing nod.

Confession time. It really annoys me when people say "This" and don't follow up with anything. Like "This is something I agree with", or "This is relevant to my interests", or even saying "this" and then giving their own take on the matter. If they're not gonna contribute to a conversation with anything, why bother including a comment that's barely a sentence?

But it's just a pet peeve of mine.
