I feel the same way about the actual show. If you asked me to give a quick answer without thought, I’d say I easily prefer the action/adventure episodes, but with that said, the slice of life might be what is needed, to increase my appreciation of the former.

The slice-of-life issues are just fine - if everything was adventure, it would get old fast. Slice-of-life let them play at the edges nice.
 
But, I am hoping the pirate arc will be more epic.
