“101” refers to the US college course numbering. The first number represents the skill level, while the last two are for field of study. Ex. 364 could be Introduction to Databases and 564 would be Databse Design. 101 specifically is used when a course has a four letter subject before it, ex. CHEM 101 for beginners chemistry and CHEM 102 the the following course. These are several different conventions used by the US college system so it will vary with location.
