That is entirely true, yes. It’s hard to tell in a strictly written medium, unless emotes are involved. Although the phrasing of a reply such as “Oops, you spelled [x] wrong” is usually supposed to imply a certain levity.
 
Thing is, though, “best pony” is entirely subjective. Every fan has their own choice of pony and it doesn’t really impact on anyone else’s choice. Right now a fan thinks that Cranky Doodle is awesome and deserves a bigger role, and they’re welcome to think so. Posting an objective “[x] is best pony” statement is just an invitation for others to make fun of it. Just as Pinkie Pie would.
