I also concur heartily with James Rye about the deadliness of Muffinshare’s Filly Twilight.

Jesus, Muffin´s Twily is deadly. Really deadly. I don´t wanna know how many bronies were found dead before their monitors and the last thing on the screen was one of MS´s Twily comics. XD

The other reason is, its not important enough to expand on. The show says “see these guys? They’re the guards. Now move on.” There isn’t going to an episode about the guards. All we need is tough sounding guys in armor.

I think the better explaination is the same reason so many ponies have the same body types, they didn’t have the time this artist did to work on stuff, so those not constrained to any deadlines or stuff can take thier time and make every individual look more individual.

I was saying the ones was saw where males, but we didn’t see the whole army, so for all we know, as it’s NOT said in the show, is that there may be female members, but we only see so few at a time, and we really CAN’T count the the large groups shots.

We’ve never seen female guards in the show, but they cut corners with background ponies all the time, just reusing the same couple of guard models. A comic doesn’t have those constraints - I don’t need to rig a whole new Flash puppet when I can just design a character and draw them. I thought having female military ponies brought more scope, both visually and from a storytelling perspective.
 
Thunderhead and Savoir-Faire are your classic odd-couple; he’s easy-going but thoughtless, she’s up-tight and precise; she’s concerned about procedure, he’s more interested in results; he’s a pegasus who can no longer fly, she’s a unicorn who learnt to fly (by joining the Equestrian air force because she hated feeling so helpless during the griffon attack seen in part 10).

As far we know it’s only males. However as we know they could also be robots.
